Instructions

Physical Appearance (PA) Please use the one number, each day that you sample that best describes the physical appearance at your sampling site. 1A = Crystal clear, transparent water 1B = Transparent water tea-colord by dissolved organic matter 2 = Not quite crystal clear; cloudy white, gray, or light brown 3 = Cloudy brown due to high sediment levels 4 = Green due to algal growth; indicative of excess nutrients 5 = Cloudy brown from sediment and green from algae growth

Recreational Suitability (RS) Please use the one number, each day that you sample that best describes your opinion of how suitable the stream is for recreation and aesthetic enjoyment at your sampling site. 1 = Beautiful, could not be better 2 = Very minor aesthetic problems; excellent for swimming, boating 3 = Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment slightly impaired 4 = Desire to swim and level of enjoyment of the stream substantially reduced (but boating is okay) 5 = Swimming and aesthetic enjoyment of the stream nearly impossible
