Alumni Commons Resident Success Guide

Alumni Commons offers the convenience of living on campus with some of the conveniences of living off campus. This guide should be seen as a resource for your upcoming occupancy in Alumni Commons. For a complete list of Alumni Commons policies and procedures please review the Terms and Conditions of Alumni Commons Occupancy, 2015-2016 . Things you should consider bringing to your Suite or Townhome: - Cleaning Supplies (All living spaces in your suite or townhome are the resident’s responsibility to maintain. Building cleaning staff are only responsible for building common spaces)

- Toaster

- Coffee Maker (must be auto shut off)

- Toilet Paper

- Paper Towels

- Clothes Iron (must be auto shut off)

- Television (a TV is not supplied for the living room)

- UL Listed Power Strip equipped with overcurrent protection for all of your electronic devices

- Computer/Printer

- Hair Dryer

- Alarm Clock

- Clothes Hangers

- Desk Lamp and/or floor or table lamp

- High Efficiency (HE) Laundry Detergent

- Laundry Bag/Hamper (Laundry for the Suites is a shared service in the complex. Each Townhome has its own washer/dryer unit.)

- Bed linens (twin XL)

- Trash Can(s) (one trash container and recycling container is provided in the kitchen of each unit)

- Toiletries - Towels (Bath Towels, Hand Towels, Dish Towels, etc.)

- Dish Drying Rack/Mat

Things you should not bring to your Suite or Townhome because they are not permitted or needed: - Refrigerator of any type (A full sized fridge is provided in every Suite/Townhome)

- Microwave of any type (A full sized microwave is provided in every suite/townhome)

- Electric Blankets

- Extra Furniture (every suite/townhome comes fully furnished with a bed, desk, dresser and chair. Living rooms are furnished with sofa, chair, and multipurpose tables. Suites/townhomes have full kitchens with refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, and cabinetry)

- Hot plates, electric frying pans

- Pets of any kind (except fish tanks, which are limited to 20 gallons or less and one per resident)

- Telephones and Answering Machines (There are no telephone jacks in the suites/townhomes)

- Washable Markers/Crayons and other “wall marking” items (you are not permitted to draw or mark the walls in the building, you will be charged for wall damage)

- Command Strips (they peel the paint and are not good for the walls)

- Smoking Devices (electronic cigarettes, pipes, hukas, etc. are not permitted in residence halls)

- Candles/Incense (possession of candles or incense is strictly prohibited, and may lead to judicial charges)

- Halogen lamps, extension cords, bar/neon signs or gas/electric heaters are prohibited

Reminders: - Alumni Commons Alcohol Policy: Alumni Commons is required to uphold all State, local and federal laws regarding the use of alcohol. Alumni Commons residents, and their guests and visitors who are 21 years of age or older are permitted to possess and consume alcohol in suites and townhomes or other areas designated for such use by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Suite and townhome residents, guests and visitors younger than 21 years of age may be present, but by NYS law are not permitted to possess or consume alcohol.

- Prohibited Behavior as it pertains to the alcohol policy:

o Alcoholic beverages and the possession of open containers of alcohol are prohibited in all open areas of Alumni Commons (outside of the suite or townhome unit, in stairwells, hallways, public areas such as the lobby, laundry room, and outdoors) unless approved by the Vice President for Student Affairs. o The uses of kegs, beer balls, alcohol-related paraphernalia (taps, funnels, shot glasses, etc)

o Any behavior which is prohibited by the Terms and Conditions of Alumni Commons that occurs in the presence of alcohol may lead to the suspension of alcohol privileges as deemed necessary by the Director of Alumni Commons or another Campus Official.

o Alcohol consumption by those not 21 years of age is prohibited based on NYS law. Minors must never be given alcohol under any circumstances.

- THE COLLEGE MAINTAINS NO INSURANCE FOR PROPERTY LOSS OR DAMAGE FOR ANY CAUSE; therefore, the student should carry personal property insurance, if desired. Suites/townhomes should be kept locked at all times to assure personal safety and to safeguard possessions.
