The Toronto Humane Society’s mission is “To promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering.”

The Society has a shelter where they look after lost, abandoned, and injured pets and wildlife. About 9,000 animals are cared for at the shelter every year. The THS does not receive government funding.

Adoptions:

The Society has many animals to adopt. You need to fill out an application form. A staff member will interview you. They have certain rules. If you are adopting a cat you must agree to keep it indoors. They may want some dogs to be placed in a house rather than an apartment because they like to bark a lot. When adopting a kitten or puppy you must agree to bring it in to be spayed or neutered when the animal is mature enough. Birds are available for adoption as well. A donation is welcomed when adopting a pet.
