1. LPA Architects-Humanities Building Project Glen Carols reported that the design process begins with the programming/data gathering phase. This phase entails translating things like square footage into a building and will direct the design of the project. There will be meetings with user groups that will break down into smaller groups. This will take approximately one month and will begin next week. The next step is group authorship of the design. This will lead into the visual programming, which consists of visual assessment of colors, light, etc. This will lead into conclusions and recommendations.

A meeting occurred April 20, 2004 with the user group. Dr. Villalobos reported that all areas except Foreign Language were represented.

2. Athletic Complex Status President Fallo reported that the original $17M budgeted for the athletic complex has increased to over $30Mand that we are not going to go forward with this project as designed. Bob Gann reported that the costs for demolition and reconstruction of stadium exceeded the amount originally estimated. President Fallo reported that we would need to find out how we can improve the current stadium to make it work and stay within budget. Bob Gann reported that the most critical issues are health/fire/safety, press box and disability access, and building longevity into the current stadium.

3. 2010 Enrollment President Fallo reported that we have lowered our FTES goals for the College from 37,500 in 2020 to 21,000 in 2010. Mike Maas said that the numbers he projected for growth by 2010 are still higher than projected by the State and Chancellor’s office. It does appear that 21K FTES for 2010 is a possibility.

4. L.E.E.D. (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Bob Gann distributed LEED information for the committee to review. The information covered sustainable development, sustainable building measurement criteria, categories of sustainable building, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere design, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and design process, and sustainable principles and standards.

Future Meetings The next Facilities Steering Committee meeting will be Wednesday, May 19th from 2- 4:00 p.m. in Library 202.
