1. Scheduled SIMCO Meeting Dates: December 2nd- Review Crisis Plan January 27th- School Survey (review/rewrite questions, review format and ways to encourage parents to complete survey) February 24th and March 30th- Review Results and Reworking of School Improvement Plan May 4th Review School Improvement Plan

2. Purpose of SIMCO and Handbook Review A few changes to the Parent Handbook have been implemented this year. a. There will be NO (outside) food allowed at Glenwood this year. Special permission has been granted for the 4th Immigration Simulation Feast. b. The school nurse is not required to notify all parents if there is a case of head lice. c. If a child is sent home due to a fever/diarrhea, children are only allowed to return to school if they have been fever/diarrhea free for 24 hours. d. Glenwood has begun to set a precedence that Glenwood is a safe place to speak with all staff if needed. Areas such as the gym, Nurse’s office, Guidance Suite and Principal’s offices have been designated as “safe.”

3. Curriculum Updates th a. Special Education Co-Teaching- 5 grade Special Education teacher, Kyle Porter started the school year co-teaching with other 5th grade teachers. She is focusing on Reading which includes fluency, comprehension skills as well as the “Wordly Wise” program. Many students will benefit from this and become better readers. The co-teaching piece will include parallel/station teaching which allows teachers to provide a better picture as to where children are currently and where they need to be in order to compete in today’s world. b. Math Leadership Team- Collaboratively working with teachers from Mayo Elementary School. c. ELA Leadership Team- Focusing on Writing and will be presenting to Glenwood staff.

4. MCAS Results- Grade level teams will be reviewing and breaking down all MCAS questions. 5. Upcoming School Events- a. Movie Afternoons- Now being held on the lower lever Blue Pod. b. Grade 4 In School Program 11/9- Another successful addition to the 4th grade Immigration Simulation program! c. Family Math Night 11/10- Taco Tuesday was a HUGE hit…for all those who attended and volunteered their time…this was another successful event at Glenwood! d. PTO Thanksgiving Drive- Thank you to all those who donated!! th e. Immigration Simulation 11/20- As a parent of a 4 grader, I can’t say enough about the Immigration Simulation project, this was simply an incredible experience for the 4th graders here at Glenwood! The 4th grade teachers put in countless hours in order to prepare for this event. They were amazing as were all the volunteers who participated in the Immigration Simulation last month! f. Craft Fair 11/21- The Glenwood Community is so lucky to have such an amazing PTO! This Craft Fair was yet another “Over the Top” event!! Looking forward to next year’s Craft Fair! th g. Winter Concert is Friday December 18 ….This is always a fabulous performance!!

The next SIMCO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday January 27th.
