For Students Engineering Design in Oregon Science Classrooms Page 1 of 4 Car Building Instructions for The Ultimate Speed Challenge

CONSTRUCTION 1. Collect materials: Ruler; Wheels and Axles (LEGO); Bearings (straw); Chassis (craft stick); Scissors; Marker; and Fastener.

2. Measure and cut:

a. Bearings

b. Chassis

3. Use masking tape to fasten straw bearing to the mark on your chassis.

4. Insert one LEGO axle into a bearing. Repeat for both sides.

5. Attach one wheel to each side of each axle. Repeat for both sides.

6. When you are done, turn your car over.

7. Don’t forget to decorate. Use your imagination!

8. Example alternative builds: larger chassis; smaller wheels; extra wheels; added weight.

a. Mark the straw at 3cm and cut your first bearing. Repeat for as many bearings as you need.

b. Mark your chassis 2cm in from the end. Repeat for both sides, but do not cut.
