The R esponsibilities of the Food Tech Gap Year Assistant
The aim of the Food Technology Gap Year Assistant is to support the work of Food Tech staff and to ensure that facilities for lessons and cookery clubs are appropriately prepared. In particular the role-holder will:
Support the work of the teaching staff during lessons. Ensure that the necessary ingredients, equipment and work stations are ready and prepared for use by pupils. Assist the Food Tech Technicians in maintaining stock levels of ingredients and cleaning products and ensuring that stock is stored and used appropriately to meet food hygiene requirements and avoid unnecessary wastage. Ensure that equipment and utensils are fit for purpose. Report faults as necessary. Clean aprons and ensure sufficient are available for use. Support the Department’s work outside core lessons, including cookery clubs and preparation for parents’ evenings and open days. Carry out general administrative tasks, such as photocopying, as instructed by Food Tech staff. Attend termly meetings, which may be outside normal working hours, to ensure proper departmental communication. Be aware of the School’s Health & Safety Policy and its application to the Food Technology Department. Support the work of the Head of Department in ensuring appropriate risk assessments are in place. In conjunction with all staff of the School, support, promote and act within the School’s Safeguarding Policy.
Any additional duties, as directed by the Head of Food Technology, which are within the reasonable capability and responsibility of the Gap Year Assistant. Line Management
The Food Tech Gap Year Assistant is managed day to day by the Head of Food Technology and is ultimately responsible to the Bursar.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in cooking and food preparation. Candidates should be adaptable, with friendly and professional communication skills. They will also need to be able to work to tight deadlines and use MS Office software.
Inevitably certain times of the academic year are pressured in the pattern of workload and it is important that the post holder is reliable and maintains a positive attitude.
Arrangements for the Appointment
Applications Candidates should complete all sections of the enclosed application form which should be submitted together with a full Curriculum Vitae. Interviews Interviews will be conducted at the School. This will consist of interviews with the Head of Food Technology, members of the Food Technology Department and the Bursar/HR Consultant. Terms and Conditions
The post is full time and term time only. The salary will be £8.00 per hour. Please note this is a temporary position running from 11th April - 7th July 2016.
The successful candidate will be based at the School working 5 days per week from 8am – 5pm including lunch break (although exact hours may vary). Founders Day is held on a Saturday in June or July and is a normal working day, as are weekend open days.
