Teaching and Learning Cooperative Proposal

Title of Proposal: ENS 1-2 curriculum update TLC points requested: 10 (A 10 point TLC is a minimum of 40 hours with at least half of the hours outside the contract day. A 20 point TLC is a minimum of 80 hours with at least half of the hours outside the contract day.) Proposal Submission Date: 5-30-07

Proposal Description (2-3 sentences for publishing to prospective participants): The ENS 1-2 Content team is going to update the health and physical education curriculum to include technology, best teaching practices, United Streaming and new Glencoe health materials, Intended Audience or Participant list: Marina Henry, Kelly Warner, Diane Pidgeon, Rielly Embrey Implementation Timeframe (Beginning and Ending Dates): June 20-January 2008 (No hours may be counted for any TLC until the proposal has been approved by the Professional Development Advisory Board.)

District Goals to be Addressed: PreK-12 Literacy (support for PreK-12 reading, writing, or mathematics) x Proficiency for all students across all grade levels and content areas, as measured by standardized state measures (CAHSEE, CST) x Increased access to rigorous curriculum

Intended Learning Outcomes: -ENS 1-2 Content Team will preview new Glencoe Health Materials -ENS 1-2 Content Team will preview United Streaming video clips to coordinate with curriculum -ENS 1-2 Content Team will create 2 new lessons for 5 of the state required topics ( Drugs and alcohol, mental health, nutrition, infectious disease, family life -ENS 1-2 Content Team will map out the 2007/2008 curriculum calendar and organize guest speaker dates

Professional Growth Activities – Acquisition of New Learning As evidence of implementation, each participant is required to maintain a portfolio of documentation regarding completion of her/his new learning, impact on student learning and reflection activities. This portfolio will be reviewed by the facilitator at the end of the TLC. Examples of documentation: time logs, meeting notes, discussion group notes, lesson plans, student work samples, journals, etc.

State what new learning participant(s) will acquire through this proposal, including the timeline and/or hours: ENS 1-2 Content team will meet after each unit to discuss improvements or changes. We will discuss and change what did not go well and continue to improve upon our successes.

-5hours of beginning meeting time to organize who will focus on what units -5 hour summer meeting to discuss progress and make any necessary adjustments -5 hour end of summer meeting to share findings -10 hours of united streaming preview time individually completed throughout the summer -10 hours during the summer to individually preview the Glencoe Health information -10 hours to individually create 2 lessons for each unit -8 hour content meeting when we return to share and explain new lesson activities

Classroom Implementation Activities The impact of the newly acquired learning of TLC participants on student learning is critical to this section

State how participant(s) will implement new learning in the classroom, including the timeline and/or hours anticipated: ENS 1-2 Content team members will demonstrate lessons and strategies utilizing information gained from new reading, video clips, and lesson discussions. Each member will provide the necessary materials for all other content team members. The 2 new lessons per unit will be taught to students in the first term during the 2007-08 school years. Lessons and materials will be included in the ENS1-2 Curriculum guide. This guide is used as a resource for all ENS 1-2 team members, new teachers, and administration. The exam, teaching strategies, and support materials will be provided by the individual responsible for that unit. The ENS 1-2 content team will keep a portfolio with the new lessons, notes of meetings, changes made to the lessons after instruction, and student samples. We will meet to discuss the success and or changes needed after each unit.

Budget Request

If you anticipate needing fiscal support for the implementation of your proposal, please list prospective needs and estimated costs. TLC will fund up to 50% of site based TLC’s, not to exceed $500. TLC will fund 100% of district wide proposals, not to exceed $500.

If you are the facilitator, will you need “facilitator hourly”?

For a 10 point TLC, the paid facilitator hours cannot exceed 30 hours. For a 20 point TLC, the paid facilitator hours cannot exceed 60 hours.

If you wish to receive points as a facilitator, in lieu of hourly compensation, you must write a separate facilitator proposal using the facilitator form.
