General Information about Scholarships at St Cuthbert’s College

St Cuthbert’s College offers a range of Scholarships - Academic, Music, Boarding and General Excellence. Applications are invited from talented students for entry in 2019.

. Scholarships are awarded on the results of a competitive examination and, a personal interview for short-listed candidates. . To preserve the integrity of the programme the examination and interview dates are final and it is not possible to offer an alternative. . Overall ability, participation in cultural, sporting and community activities and previous school achievements are taken into account. . Candidates will sit examinations in English and Mathematics. . Based on the results of the scholarship examination and application, a short-list for interview will be established. . In addition candidates for the Music Scholarship will prepare 2 contrasting pieces for a ten minute audition and interview. . The value of each Scholarship is a minimum of 25% of tuition fees each year, for the duration of the student’s College education. Greater support, up to the maximum value of the scholarship, is available if financial need is demonstrated. An assessment of financial position is undertaken by an evaluator independent of the College, at no cost, if you choose to apply for greater financial assistance. . There is an annual review of the performance of the scholarship holder against attitude and commitment criteria. . All scholarships are open to prospective students only. Students must be New Zealand citizens or hold New Zealand residency visas. . Scholarships or financial awards open to current students will be advertised within the College to the appropriate year levels. . In the event of there being no candidate who reaches a sufficiently high standard, a scholarship may not be awarded. . The decision of the Principal is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

You may apply for more than one Scholarship. To apply for a Scholarship please ensure that you complete the application form, include all items on the checklist and clearly indicate the name/s of the Scholarship/s for which you are applying. Applications can be submitted at any time before the closing date. You will receive an acknowledgement of the receipt of your application and further communications by email.

. Scholarship examinations will take place on Monday 9 April 2018 from 9.00-11.00am. . Candidates applying for a Music Scholarship will be contacted with information about the audition process and to arrange a suitable audition time. . Personal interviews will be held for candidates who are short-listed on Wednesday 2 May 2018. This date may be subject to change. Please ensure that you are available for an interview before you submit your application as interviews cannot be undertaken at any other time. . All candidates, both successful and unsuccessful, will be notified of the outcome of their application by email. . Applications close on Thursday 29 March 2018.

Academic Scholarships

1. Macdonald Junior Academic Scholarship 2019 . For entry in Year 7 . Strong academic ability . Involvement in cultural, sporting and/or community activities . The scholarship has a maximum value of 75% of tuition fees 2. Macdonald Senior Academic Scholarship 2019 . For entry in Year 9 . Strong academic ability . Involvement in cultural, sporting and/or community activities . The scholarship has a maximum value of 100% of tuition fees

Music Scholarship

3. Trust Board Music Scholarship 2019 . For entry in Year 7 or Year 9 . Technical and musical excellence at Grade 5 or above in main instrument (not voice) . Preferably competent in two instruments (second instrument may be voice) . Preference will be given to string players . The scholarship has a maximum value of 100% of tuition fees . The successful student will be required to participate in the cultural and music life of the College . The successful student will be required to take Music as an academic subject option from Year 9 to the end of Year 13

Boarding Scholarships (2)

4. Trust Board Boarding Scholarships 2019 . For entry in Year 9 or Year 10 . The student must be motivated and achieving well at her local school . The student must live at a distance greater than 50 km from the College . The scholarship has a maximum value of 100% of boarding fees per annum

General Excellence Scholarships

5. Kathleen Goulding Academic Scholarship 2019 . For entry in Year 9 . Strong academic ability and general excellence . Available to both current and prospective students . This scholarship has a maximum value of 75% of tuition fees 6. Centennial Scholarship 2019 This scholarship is not available for entry in 2018 . For entry in Year 12 . Available for students with a family connection to St Cuthbert’s College e.g daughter / granddaughter / cousin/ niece of St Cuthbert’s College Old Girl . Strong academic ability and general excellence . Demonstrated interest in community service . This scholarship has a maximum value of 100% of tuition fees for Year 12 and Year 13

Endeavour Scholarships (4)

7. Endeavour Scholarships 2019 . For entry in Year 7 . Available to students of Maori and/or Pasifika descent who are active in their culture . This scholarship has a maximum value of 100% of tuition fees and provision for associated costs . Please refer to separate information about the Endeavour programme.
