POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER REPORTS TO: STORE MANAGER HOURLY, NON-EXEMPT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Assistant Store Manager assists the store manager within their assigned store with emphasis on sales and profit generation, staff development, inventory control and marketing.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

SALES:  Personally provide exemplary customer service and assist in the training of quality customer service of staff as per company standards and direction.  Achieves sales goals and performance  Role Play with co-workers to improve sales techniques.  Assist in merchandise maintenance and placement through adherence to endcap presentation guidelines and other merchandising guidelines as they are issued.

SUPERVISION:  Demonstrate leadership, professionalism and respect for others in all situations with regard to the company, its’ customers, employees, vendors and any other individuals encountered in the ordinary course of business.  Motivate employees through a positive work environment.  Delegate.

COMMUNICATION/TRAINING:  Maintain open communication lines with store employees both upward and downward.  Communicate company and store policies, procedures and expectations.  Train, coach and empower employees.  Assist in evaluating and writing employee reviews.  Attend manager meetings.  Assist store manager in creating an annual store plan.

INVENTORY/ASSET MANAGEMENT:  Reorder merchandise as assigned by Store Manager to ensure adequate stocking levels while maintaining overall inventory levels within the store guidelines.  Monitor store procedures and control functions (i.e. cash register, deposits, merchandising and receiving with a PDT) for consistency and compliance.  Assist in perpetual cycle counts and store inventories.  Efficiently use hours in accordance with company guidelines.  Adhere to and maintain good store security policies. MARKETING:  Assist in all marketing efforts, direct sales calls and participation in events.

MISCELLANEOUS:  All other duties as assigned by manager from time to time.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of pet food and supply industry, products, practices and management processes.  Ability to demonstrate and practice leadership skills.  Ability to train personnel for customer service, product knowledge and feature and benefit selling.  Excellent written and oral skills.  Basic computer software knowledge

JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Consistent lifting capabilities up to 50 lbs.  Ability to bend and lift or pick-up items from low shelves or floor, climb a ladder and twist.  Must be able to work 40 hours per week and overtime may be required.  Flexible hours.  Attend store meetings and vendor trainings.
