AFJROTC Uniform Policy – please read carefully
Wearing of the JROTC uniform has more impact on class grades and promotion than any other factor. Uniforms will be issued starting the 3rd week of class. Wear of the uniform (one day per school week) begins mid-October and lasts through mid-May. Cadets will be shown how to clean, iron, and polish shoes in class. The only required item not issued is a white V-neck t-shirt. It is the responsibility of the cadets to clean the uniform throughout the year, as needed. Dark blue clothing items must be dry cleaned and shoes should be polished weekly. At the end of the year, cadets will dry clean and return the following uniform items: Service coat, windbreaker jacket, short-sleeve shirt, and dress pants (replacement cost ~$275). Issued belt/buckle and tie may be returned, but mot mandatory. Cadets may keep their hat, shoes, socks, ribbons and name tags. Cadets selected to return for next year’s JROTC class may hold on all uniform items over the summer. All cadets will sign a uniform hand receipt. An additional receipt (copy) will be given to the cadet for parent’s documentation.
AFJROTC’s uniform wear requirements:
• Wear the uniform one day per week. (Wed or Thurs when you have your JROTC class). • Wear it the full day (starting at home and until you return home + flight cap when outside). • Wear it properly (*Air Force standards) in and out of JROTC class • Weekly uniform inspection - either quiz or test grade, as posted. • 5-10% taken off for each infraction (examples: lint, wrinkles, shoes need a shine, etc.)
If you were absent on uniform day (sick, doctor visit, etc.), you must wear the uniform the next Tuesday for credit (minus infractions). That means 2 uniform wears that week! If you “forgot” to wear on uniform day, (uniform at the cleaners, etc.), you must wear the uniform the next Tuesday for 50% credit (minus any infractions). That means 2 uniform wears that week! • If you do NOT makeup the uniform on the prescribed Tuesday, you earn a “0” for that inspection. • Three (3) or more “forgotten” uniform wears (regardless of makeups) are grounds for initiating removal from AFJROTC.
Key standards for the Air Force Uniform: 1) Neatness 2) Cleanliness 3) Professional Military Image *Air Force grooming standards. Cadets have been disenrolled from JROTC for hair/grooming issues. Cadets must use military standards for haircuts and shaves while in uniform. Male cadets will not wear earrings in uniform. Hair styles cannot be “faddish,” (unnatural color, mohawks, shaved lines, etc.). In this case, the cadet will be counseled by the instructor and a letter/e-mail sent home. If it continues, the cadet should expect to be withdrawn from the program. This is a JROTC headquarters mandated compliance issue.
