WOHS Varsity Swim Team

Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(S) and Swimmer, Please read the following information about rules, procedures, and expectations for the 2016-2017 White Oak High School Swim Team. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any of the information below please feel free to contact me at any point. Once both you and your swimmer have read the rules, procedures, and expectations please fill out the attached forms and have your swimmer return it to me with all other necessary paperwork found in this packet. No swimmer will participate in tryouts, practices, or meets until all necessary paperwork has been turned in to the coaches and the concussion and MRSA films have been viewed by both the parent and the swimmer.

As a swimmer with WOHS I understand that I am expected at all times to:  Respect Coaches, teammates, officials, competitors, staff (school and MCCS), and any other person I may encounter while with the WOHS Swim Team.  Support and encourage teammates and practice and meets  Be on time, ready, and prepared for all practices and swim meets. o This means I am on the pool deck, stretched and read for the warm-up swim when the practice time is to commence with swim cap and goggles on if desired 15 minutes prior to practice starting o I am in the pool, ready for practice at 5 pm  Maintain a positive attitude: o Accept assigned practices/events without complaining o Refrain from being disruptive and using profanity o Be a good sport whether we win or lose  Be ready and prepared to swim any event that may need to be filled  Inform coaches of any doctor, dentist, or other appointments that may interfere with practices 24 hours advance of practice and 48 hours advanced for meets. o Practices will be determined excused or unexcused based on the discretion of the coaches and the nature of the absence o If a swimmer misses more than 1 meet, they are no longer eligible to earn a Varsity Letter  Report any illnesses or injuries to the coaches immediately so that proper care can be given and proper notifications can be made.  Know and understand all information about your events. o If I miss an event for any reason other than an excused reason from the coach, I will have an additional 1000 to swim at the following practices (style to be selected by the coaches). In the event of a missed relay all my teammates are held responsible. o In the event of doing an improper flip-turn during a race, before leaving the meet sight, swimmer will complete 25 pushups per flip turn that was done improperly.  Before I may leave practice or a meet I must make sure the areas that the WOHS swim team has used are clean and tidy. Also I must be dismissed by a coach in order to leave. o In order to leave with a parent after a meet my parent must be present and have completed a form stating that they are taking full responsibility for me. No swimmer will be released to any persons other than their parents unless prior arrangements have been made with the coaches. No student will ever be released to another WOHS student or student from another school even if parent permission has been given.  I am required to stay for the entire meet to show support for my team.  I am responsible for the purchase and maintenance of all my own equipment. o There will be a team suit and cap that is selected and must be worn in order to participate in swim meets. If a swimmer does not have the designated swim suit and cap they will not be allowed to participate in any meet events.  I am responsible for my own transportation to and from practices as well as to and from the designated pick up and drop off areas for swim meets.  In order to swim in a meet I must be present the practice before a meet or I will not participate in the meet. I will however, still be expected to attend the meet to support my teammates and help with timing the events.  Remember that at any time I am with the WOHS swim team or wearing WOHS swim team gear, I am representative of my school, team, family, the coaches, and most importantly myself. I am expected to have the pride, maturity, and responsibility that are expected from a young lady/man at all times.  In order to obtain a varsity letter I must: o Compete in at least 1 event in all regular season swim meets unless I have an excusable reason that has been approved by the coach ( ex. Sickness, injury, etc. (Maximum 2 missed meets are excused with documentation and reason) o Must attend 80% of practices or have no more than 5 excused practices including dry land practices. o If a swimmer has missed more than 10 practices they will be removed from the team. o If a swimmer does not attend and participate in try-outs (October 31, Nov 2, Nov 3) they will be cut from the team.  Remember that at all times I am a WOHS student and am expected to follow all WOHS rules, OCS rules, the rules in this contract, as well as any rules provided by the facilities we may use.  I must be passing ALL CLASSES with above a 75 average in order to maintain an active status on the swim team, both at the 3-week progress report and the 6-week report card mark.

If a parent or swimmer has any issues with the above rules and their swimmer’s inability to follow any of them, please feel free to speak with the coaches privately at any point. I will not speak to the parents about swimmers performance, events they are swimming, or any other nonemergency related topics during practices or before, after, or during any meets. If you have a concern about your swimmer, please feel free to speak with the coaches before or after any practice.

We will be practicing at Area 2 Pool (behind the base movie theater on Main Side, Camp Lejeune), from 5-6 pm Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. Please see attached section on

We look forward to a successful and fun season with both the parents and swimmers. Feel free to contact via email or the numbers below with any concerns, comments, or issues that you may have. GO VIKINGS!
