Statement: Governor Jay Inslee appointed Judge Maxa to the Court of Appeals in 2013 after a distinguished career as a trial and appellate lawyer at Gordon Thomas Honeywell in Tacoma. Judge Maxa is highly regarded for his integrity, judgment, sense of fairness, intelligence and work ethic.

Judge Maxa is committed to serving his community. Since 2008 he has been on on the Board of Directors of the Emergency Food Network, which provides millions of pounds of food each year to over 50 food distribution and meal sites throughout Pierce County. He volunteers in the Puyallup Freezing Nights Program, which provides meals and overnight shelter to homeless adults. He is an Elder, youth leader and substitute preacher at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church. Judge Maxa also was a volunteer youth softball, baseball and basketball coach for 15 years in Parkland and Puyallup.

Judge Maxa and his wife Becky have four children (and one grandchild) and live in Puyallup. Becky is a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.

Judge Maxa is honored and privileged to serve the citizens of Pierce County and the State of Washington as a Court of Appeals judge.
