Please welcome the new administrative assistant of our office— Joyce McGuire. Her official start date is November 1. Please stop in and welcome Joyce. Also in the first week of November, work is scheduled to begin on the spa renovation. Its reopening should happen mid-December. 2nd Floor Balconies For upstairs unit owners with balconies, the maintenance of the surface coating of the balcony is the responsibility of the unit owner. Some coatings need to be resealed or coated every couple of years dependent upon what surface you have. Many balconies have been ignored and cracks have formed. The cracks can allow moisture and water to infiltrate, which gets in between the floors and causes the downstairs privacy garden ceilings to show water stains and even collapse. The repair of the downstairs ceiling is the responsibility of the upstairs owner as this is lack of balcony maintenance. This can be prevented by treating and maintaining your balcony. Some owners have recently installed a three-part paint type product, which not only renewed the look of the Plant-of-the-month: Ixora Coccinia balcony but eliminated any future moisture issues. First up from Condo Kate — Dryer Vents!

I know what you’re thinking: “Could you pick a dryer topic?” Uh… well… no. Look, this is pretty simple. If you don’t keep your dryer vent — including the “vent hose” — free of lint build-up, you’ll wonder why your laundry room gets “dusty” with lint after each load of clothes you dry. So if you suspect your dryer exhaust hose is clogged, get some help (yes, call an appliance service), to pull out the dryer from the wall, disconnect the dryer exhaust hose and unclog it. If you’re a first floor own- er, you’ll also need to pay special attention to the out- side vent. It should be protected by a plastic cage.
