Granger Public Library Board Meeting Minutes: Monday, September 11, 6:30 p.m.

Minutes: No minutes were reviewed.

Library Director’s report: August statistics included an increase in interlibrary loans from previous months. 62 new titles have been added, and 13 new patrons have applied for library cards.

The Crochet and Talk program continues to meet weekly. Book club members are reading November Rain. Harriet has seven classes of preschool students from Woodward-Granger Early Learning Center. Morning story time started August 30, and the after-school program started back up for the year August 9. On August 31, family night BINGO was a success with 42 attendees and a waiting list for participants. Tish Simmons is currently volunteering at the library.

Special upcoming events include an author visit by Donald Harstad Sept. 18, and family BINGO Sept. 28.

Financial Report: Bills for July paid in August were motioned to be approved by Kelli, Pam seconded. All in favor. Bills for August to be paid in September were motioned to be approved by Kelli, seconded by Deanna. All in favor. The programs line item for library documentation purposes will differ slightly from the city documentation due to the use of a donation directed for after school programming use. Additional donations were received from a Wells Fargo employee program, and will be used for programming.

Old Business: The library board is still looking for a Dallas County rural-area board member; a notice will be posted on the library website. The Friends of the Library hosted their annual Highway 141 garage sale booksale and received $150, with 72 people stopping to shop. The remaining books were donated to a DMACC program. Several questions for the Friends of the Library group were discussed, including new members. Kelli will reach out to Lisa Smith and Janelle Teague for additional information. The Summer Reading Program wrapped up with 126 children, 75 adults and 13 teens participating. Author Dennis Harstad will be visiting the Granger Monday, Sept. 18 at the Granger Community Building, hosted by the library.

New Business: Harriet met with MaryAnn Mori, central district consultant for the State Library of Iowa, to discuss the accreditation process for the library. A strategic plan was discussed, and a community planning meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 16 at the library. The annual Pumpkin Patch decorating event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25. Carpet cleaning estimates were received by Marrot Company and DreamSteam. The board approved Harriet to move forward with getting the carpets cleaned. The board reviewed library documents from Waukee Public Library showing an income line on their budget review. An income line will be added to the library documents reviewed by the board, and will detail state aid funds, donations and other income for visibility purposes.
