JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Casual Catering Assistant/Waiter

Department: Catering Department

Reports to: Front of House Services Manager

Purpose of role: To assist in the smooth running of the food and beverage service for all internal and external functions; maintaining the high standards set out by the Catering Department in all areas of service.

Main Responsibilities:

1. To work in all areas of the food and beverage outlets within the College, assisting with the preparation and service of meals and drinks to internal and external customers as per Food Service section procedures and as required or directed by the Front of House Services Manager/Bar Supervisor. 2. Maintain strictly professional relationships with Fellows, students, staff, conference delegates and other customers 3. Ensure all Catering Department security procedures are adhered to with regard to the following: function rooms, equipment, silver and food and beverages items 4. Adhere to the correct clocking in and clocking out procedure as instructed by the Front of House Services Manager 5. To assume utmost confidentiality at all times; no information should be disclosed to any third party 6. To maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming at all times. 7. To undertake appropriate training sessions 8. Maintain high standards of hygiene by complying with all Health and Hygiene Standards safety regulations as per current legislation and departmental directives; assist in completing all hygiene schedules if required; be familiar with the Catering Department’s health & safety and fire policies and procedures 9. If required, work on the tills; ensure departmental cash handling/till operational procedures are followed at all times.

October 2017 PERSON SPECIFICATION

 Previous ‘Front of House’ hospitality or bar work desirable

 Excellent customer service skills

 Excellent communication skills with a strong command of spoken and written English

 Applicants must be honest and trustworthy with a friendly approachable manner

 Able to work alone or as part of a team

 Able to remain calm under pressure

 Reliable and enthusiastic

 Smart appearance, with high standard of personal hygiene and grooming

 Awareness of the need to maintain confidentiality

 Prepared to work unsocial hours

Employment Details

Rate of Pay: £8.53 per hour

Hours: Casual, variable and not guaranteed

Holiday: 5.6 weeks paid annual leave per year, pro rata for hours actually worked. Leave will be calculated on a quarterly basis the leave entitlement in engagements in the previous quarter paid in arrears. Payment is for the purpose of off-setting the effect of the loss earnings when taking a break from working and should not be seen as payment in lieu of holiday.
