Apex Lacrosse 2016 Pre-season Meeting Agenda (www.apexlax.com)- Twitter @apexlax

Coaches- John Hayden (16th yr), Ed Moore (16th yr), Gene Vigue (7th yr), Ryan Cummings (2nd yr), Chip Thurston (15th yr), Forrest Moog (4th yr and former player), Bryce Sneed (2nd yr and former player).

Physicals and Concussion Forms- Due immediately. We will take your form as soon as you get it- please do not wait until the last day- we want them now! You may access the Wake County Physical Form at apexhigh.com. Players may not attend sessions without a current Physical or Concussion Form on file. Be sure to sign all pages.

Team conditioning - January 5, 27, February 3,10- Meet at the track by 2:35. Any player interested in trying out may attend these sessions.

HQ Conditioning- The staff at Sport HQ Performance has set up a customized program for the Apex Lacrosse Team. Days/Dates are M/Th (3PM) January 4,7,11,14,18,21,25,28 February 1,4. Cost is $95. Comprehensive conditioning program rain or shine (or even snow). We recommend this highly. Anyone can take part in this- the coaches are not involved- the program is run by Geoff Chrisman and the staff at HQ Performance (located in the McGregor Shopping Center. Indoor and outdoor facility with field turf training fields. To register, just show up to the next session with payment.

Skill Sessions- NCHSAA guidelines dictate that we may only work with 9 players on any given day (this does not include conditioning or Open Field). We will try to work with as many players as we can, but with limited time and roughly 70 players trying out, there is no chance that we will come close to having all players out at skill sessions. Players will be contacted by text or email for skill sessions- players must rsvp one way or the other when invited to a skill session.

First day of tryouts is February 15th- All players who make the program will be expected to be present at practices on Saturday February 20th and 27th -just plan on doing lacrosse stuff all day- please do not ask out for all or part of either day.. The Varsity and JV rosters will be posted on www.apexlax.com Tuesday Feb 16th by 8PM.

Tryouts- What to bring- Players should bring all of their gear and clothes appropriate for the weather to school on February 15th. Bring cleats and sneakers every day. The locker room will be open before school for players to put things in lockers- some Seniors will be there to help the younger guys as needed. All players must bring locks- some players may need to share lockers for tryouts. All players will clear out the locker room after tryouts on February 16th. Those players who make the team should bring all of their gear back in Wednesday morning- all players must have a lock at that point. Faceoff Meeting (For parents and players)- Sunday February 21st from 1-2:30 in the Cafeteria. Players will receive all uniforms, shirts, warm-up shirts, sweats, bags etc. at the meeting. We will collect money for some of these items that day also. We will collect a lot of the mandatory paperwork that day and we will go over team rules and expectations among other things. More details after tryouts.

Fundraiser- all players who make V or JV will be required to participate in one fundraiser. We sell discount cards- the goal for each player is to sell a minimum of 15 cards. There are many incentives- cash and otherwise for the kids. All of the money raised goes right back to the kids in many ways.

Helmets- All Varsity players are required to have a black Cascade Pro 7 or R helmet (not for tryouts). Any sophomore or new upperclassmen who does not already have one will be asked to pay half of the cost for that helmet- $70. The team will supply the decals.

Game Shorts- All players will need to pay $85 for their game shorts (Varsity and JV receives both black and white game shorts) and hoodie and sweats. Players new to the program will all receive an Apex Lacrosse Game Bag at no charge. Players keep these items plus the dry fit undershirts they receive at no charge. If there is a financial situation that we are aware of, we will make sure all of our kids are outfitted properly.

Academics and Behavior- The bottom line is this- we have too many young men trying out to justify keeping players who have not been doing the right things and where there is a history of poor behavior and inattention to academics- those negative behaviors will likely hurt the candidate at tryouts. We have been checking on players throughout the year. If you have been making bad decisions, this may preclude you from making the team (you may be cut for that).

Spring Break- Varsity itinerary will be posted on www.apexlax.com. All team activities will be mandatory. Plan on being available from 8AM Wednesday March 30th through Saturday April 2nd.

*If there are any financial situations that would prohibit a player from being able to pay for anything, the player or parent should confidentially speak to Coach Hayden- accommodations will be made- we will take care of all of our guys.

Examples of other things the fundraiser money pays for: Any playoff travel expenses, a huge backstop net for shooting, scouting expenses during the season/playoffs, audiovisual needs, balls, extra equipment, replacing old equipment, subsidizing helmets, apparel for the players, coaches apparel, rental of outside facilities in foul weather, locker room expenses, spring break expenses and travel, extra things we are able to do for the kids (lunches at various times), and more.
