Minor Hockey, as most understand, is a team game and it is expected that everyone that wishes to participate take the time to become familiar with the various rules, regulations, policies and bylaws. VIAHA is a not-for-profit society that is over seen by 17 member minor hockey associations. By working together towards common goals, all will have a better chance to succeed. While a member MHA operates their own association, they must also follow the agreements that collectively the 17 MHAs make, even if their own MHA feels they want to do things differently. All member associations are required to participate in leagues administrated by VIAHA and as such, everyone is obligated to adhere to the democratic decisions made by the whole. Many take for granted the 1,000s of volunteers to administer minor hockey on the island with volunteer hours in the 10s of thousands of hours annually. When administrators refuse to learn the rules and parents that expect far too much cause issues it adds to the volunteer hours and in many cases causes volunteers to quit out of frustration. We wish everyone a year that is fun and enjoyable as we watch our children develop their hockey skills. Let us try to understand where others are coming from and do everything possible to put programming together that our players will enjoy and want to return to. Let us also remember that in our game officials are integral and parents, spectators and fans need to keep their negative comments to themselves or they may be asked to vacate the arena. Our children deserve nothing less than all of our cooperation and working together, the responsibility of administering this great game that has been entrusted to us and we should feel privileged to be doing something for our children. Coaches will then have until December 1 of the current season to complete the requirements for the Development 1 Certification 15 All Recreation Coaches Atom & Above: Need to attend a Coach 2 clinic by December 15 of the current season or have achieved previous trained status at the Coach 2 - Coach Level (or equivalent) prior to the 2017-18 season All Recreation Coaches below Atom: Must attend a Coach 1– Intro to Coach Clinic by December 15 of the current season or have achieved previous trained status at the Coach 2 - Coach Level (or equivalent) 14/15 Last weekend of League play before Christmas Break Divisions 31 Last day for a carded team to withdraw from BC Hockey Championships 3 2019-2020 VIAHA Handbook January 11/12 League play resumes after Christmas Break 12 VIAHA EXEC Committee Meeting – 11:00am - Nanaimo 10 Final Date for Residential Waivers at the Tiered level 10 A Peewee, Bantam or Midget Hockey team that has 19 players registered on January 10th shall not be permitted to register any further players during the current season.     KVHA News - Vol. 17 No. 20 – May 23, 2019 Rob Sumner and Keith Espirito will Coach KVHA’s 12U A1 Selects for 2019-2020 Season Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA., Thursday, May 23, 2019 – Harry Smith, Kent Valley’s Hockey Director, is pleased to announce that Rob Sumner and Keith Espirito will be coaching Kent Valley’s 12U A1 Selects for the 2019-2020 season. Rob Sumner is an Assistant Director of Scouting for the NHL’s Calgary Flames and has worked for Calgary since 2011. Prior to joining the Flames, Sumner coached over 1,000 games in the Western Hockey League and served seven seasons as Head Coach with the Seattle Thunderbirds. A former WHL defenseman, he was a Flames draft pick in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Sumner played his minor (youth) hockey in North Vancouver beginning at age 9 through 5 years of juniors, including the National Junior “A” Championship with the Richmond Sockeyes of the BCHL in 86-87. He played 4 years in the WHL, 3 years with the Victoria Cougars 86-90 and 1 year with the Prince Albert Raiders 90-91. Sumner has four seasons of experience with KVHA having assisted with Learn to Play and coached the 16/17 10U Tornadoes, 17/18 10U "B" Selects and the 18/19 12U "B" Selects. When asked about his motivation for coaching, Sumner responded, “I understand where the kids are in terms of hockey skill and knowledge and enjoy trying to provide a positive environment that will take each of them to that next level in their development.” Keith Espirito has been involved with KVHA’s youth hockey programs for six seasons and has served as a Coach at the Learn to Play, 8U “B” and 10U “B” levels.

    Handbook 2020-2021 CONSTITUTION, DIRECTORY, BYLAWS, REGULATIONS, AWARDS AND HISTORY As amended to September 19, 2020 BC Hockey Handbook 2020-2021 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD I want to acknowledge we are on the unceded and traditional territories of many Indigenous people throughout BC and Yukon. BC Hockey honours the traditional lands and homelands of all Indigenous peoples and communities across Canada, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis I’d also like to recognize all BC Hockey’s life members and thank them for their tireless dedication to all who play our great game. In the Spring of 2020, we were forced to pause hockey because of the COVID-19 Chair of the Board pandemic. At the same time the BC Bill Greene Hockey Board of Directors recognized there was a need for a significant reset and change in the operation of BC Hockey moving into the future. This change meant a complete re-evaluating of our current practices, with the common goal of improving our organization. From the information you provided to the Board of Directors we began rebuilding our organization from the ground up. Much work has been done and we still have more work to do. The Board has reached out to many stakeholders that included Minor Hockey Associations, Builders, and Life Members to help guide us into what we refer to as the “New BC Hockey”. COVID-19 forced changes to all aspects of life and hockey was no exception. Never in the history of our organization have we been forced to deal with a pandemic.
