Monday: As you write your spelling words, sort them into these groups: oo, ui, ew, ue, oe, oi/oy, and High Frequency Words (HFW). Then, write meaningful sentences using the first 4 vocabulary words. Tuesday: Try to create 1-2 new rimes (words that rhyme, but have the same spelling pattern ) for “room,” “tool,” “clue/glue”, and “flew/new”. Be sure these are real words! (Use a dictionary to check). Write your spelling words using your best printing. Write meaningful sentences using vocabulary words #5-7. Wednesday: A) Can you find any homophones in your spelling & vocabulary word list? (Hint: there are four!) B) Use a thesaurus to find synonyms for the following vocabulary words: “urgent,” “recuperate”, and “aid.” Write meaningful sentences (declaratives or interrogatives) for vocabulary words #8-10. Thursday: Study your spelling & vocabulary words so you’re ready for Friday’s test. Note: If you got 100 % on the spelling pretest, you will not need to do the Monday or Tuesday spelling homework, but you MUST do the vocabulary activities, as well as the thesaurus work. Please choose 1 set of words on my “Tricky Word List” and make a picture dictionary that includes a meaningful sentence & meaningful question. (See “Tricky Word List” sheet for instructions).
