Job Description

Role title: Youth & Community Projects Intern

Department: Creative Learning Projects

Line Managers Youth & Community Programme Manager

Hours Part-time, 17.5 hours per week, flexibility to work weekends and evenings may be required

Fee £1,800 (210 hours, £8.57 p.h.)

Contract Fixed-term, 12 weeks 8th January- 29th March 2018

Core Purpose Assist the creative team in administration and practical tasks for outreach work, shows and events. To develop the necessary skills to work within arts administration including supporting projects practically, managing databases, data monitoring, creating documents, filing, documenting events and project specific administration.

The successful candidate will:  Gain varied arts administration experience working in a multi-art form setting.  Gain an insight into how to administrate and coordinate projects for an arts venue creative programme.  Develop arts administration, copy writing and project management skills. Key Tasks  Work with artists, young people and parents to coordinate aspects of creative projects.  Specific administration for projects including creating forms, schedules, registers, databases and assist with logistics of projects.  Co-ordinate sending and collecting information for project participants.  Collect and input monitoring information.  Manage and maintain database information.  Contribute to setting up administrative systems for the creative team.  Manage and archive documentation of events  Undertake creative programme related projects and duties as required.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will: Be interested in working with young people and the Community Be motivated, positive and keen to develop a career in arts administration. Be personable and able to communicate with a range of people including professional and emerging artists, young people, older people and people with disabilities Be organised, good at planning and managing their time with a flexible approach to work patterns Have basic design skills e.g photoshop (or be willing to learn) Be reliable with a mature professional attitude Be able to follow instructions and be a willing and quick learner Have enthusiasm and passion for a variety of art-forms including music, dance, theatre, circus and participatory arts Be a strong team player - able to manage relationships and work within a diverse team Have effective written and verbal communication skills including copy-writing Be confident and capable in appropriate online research Be IT literate – MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint with the ability to learn and use new software and IT systems like Artifax Be committed to delivering quality work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail Understand the importance of company values, policies, procedures and guidelines, including confidentiality, data protection and Health & Safety guideline Practical experience working on arts projects would be desirable Have a current DBS (Disclosure & barring Service) check or prepared to apply for it if offered the role

The Albany: background information

The Albany, in the heart of Deptford, is a vibrant performing arts venue, with a strong focus on working with diverse, local communities. Our mission is to provide:  An artistic and community resource where diversity and creativity flourish.  A space where new talent is nurtured and exposed to ideas from across the world.  High quality creative experiences relating to the communities we serve.  A creative centre for learning within the community, contributing to the cultural, social and economic benefit of South East London. The organisation has grown considerably over the last three years, with turnover doubling to £2.6million in 2015/16, and the staff team growing to 53 full and part time roles. The Albany is a registered charity and operates a social enterprise business model generating over 50% of its turnover from earned income. It is also grateful for the consistent support of the London Borough of Lewisham and the Arts Council England.

During the last year over 180,000 people visited the Albany and used its facilities, including audiences of 40,000 at over 400 events. The Albany has four performance spaces and its year-round programme encompasses music, theatre, dance, and spoken word as well as an array of educational, training and community-based projects. Its other facilities include rehearsal and meeting rooms for hire, office space for 26 resident companies and a catering operation that spans cafes, evening bars and hospitality catering across three sites.

The Albany is also contracted to manage community and performance spaces at Deptford Lounge and Canada Water Culture Space on behalf of Lewisham and Southwark Councils.
