DEAL VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE CALENDAR OF EVENTS MARCH 2015

Deal Castle open to the public every Saturday & Sunday Walmer Castle closed until 30th March

Sun 1st Indoor Boot Fair, Community Centre, Golf Road, 10am-3pm St. David’s Day Lunch in aid of Macmillan, Deal Town Hall, 12.30pm–2pm. There will also be musical entertainment and a raffle. South Foreland Valley – A three-mile walk that will take roughly two and a half hours, to explore the wildlife and history of the South Foreland Valley, especially the military remains. The walk is grade 4 (some rough ground) so wear suitable footwear and a torch, as part of the walk will involve exploring some of the easy-to-reach underground structures (not deep underground and only briefly each time). The meeting place is the car park in St Margaret’s-at- Cliffe Village, off the high street (near the church and NOT the car park at St Margaret’s Bay), at 2pm. No dogs are allowed. Mon 2nd FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT - Monday 23rd February – Sunday 8th March Tues 3rd Deal Society talk on “Joseph Lister: phenolics, parochialism and plaudits” by Dr Geoff Scott, retired Consultant Microbiologist, who will examine the life and work of Joseph Lister, a past Walmer resident who was the father of antisepsis and antiseptic surgery. Deal Town Hall, 7.30pm Neighbourhood Forum Community Meeting – Deal & Walmer Area, St Georges Church, High Street, Deal, 7pm-9pm. The topic is ‘Traffic, Transport and Highways’. These meetings are jointly run by KCC and DDC and are a way for the local community to find out more about issues that are important to them. Martin Mill Meander – A four-and-a-half-mile walk, taking two and a half hours, taking in the villages of East and West Langdon and the village of Martin using footpaths and country roads. Meet at Martin Mill railway station, Station Approach, Martin Mill CT15 5JU at 2pm. This is a grade 3 walk and a suggested donation of £1 to White Cliffs Countryside Partnership is appreciated.
