Pinson 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\nbd\12613ac04.doc 11 12 Introduced in the House on May 25, 2004 13 Introduced in the Senate on May 26, 2004 14 Adopted by the General Assembly on May 26, 2004 15 16 Summary: Greenwood Christian School Varsity Girls Soccer Team 17 18 19 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 20 21 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 22 5/25/2004 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-65 23 5/26/2004 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-9 24 25 26 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 27 28 5/25/2004 29 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS 12 OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE 13 GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS 14 SOCCER TEAM AND THEIR COACHING STAFF FOR 15 WINNING THE SCISA REGION AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 16 AND TO COMMEND THEM ON THEIR HARD WORK AND 17 DETERMINATION TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. 18 19 Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to 20 have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and 21 teamwork with developing great athletic talents; and 22 23 Whereas, to be a champion in soccer, all members of the team and 24 coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical 25 abilities; and 26 27 Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach David 28 Harrell, the varsity girls soccer team of Greenwood Christian faced 29 intimidating opponents and tough matches but were rewarded with 30 the chance to become SCISA Region AA State Champions; and 31 32 Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, the 33 Greenwood Christian soccer team enjoyed success in several 34 competitions, entering the finals with an overall record of 8-3; and 35 36 Whereas, during the playoff competitions, the Greenwood 37 Christian soccer team recorded two shut-out victories against 38 Beaufort Academy and Trinity Collegiate, allowing only one team 39 to score against them in the State Championship match against St. 40 Andrews; and 41

1 [5366] 1 1 Whereas, capturing the title of SCISA Region AA State 2 Champions, the Greenwood Christian soccer team defeated St. 3 Andrews in a dramatic final match that included four periods of 4 overtime with no one scoring and six penalty kicks to finally 5 determine that Greenwood Christian would be the champions after 6 110 minutes of play; and 7 8 Whereas, the members of this championship team include: Joy 9 Cain, Carolina Clarke, Sarah Goforth, Jenna Owen, Nina Bonetti, 10 Yoco Choi, Lin Le, Chelsea Rose, Carolyne Cain, Rebecca 11 Wilson, Kate Hinrichs, Kate Fyock, Alison Gore, Corinne 12 Burdette, Amy Johnson, Mallory Rose, and Caroline Cailan; and 13 14 Whereas, the Greenwood Christian School varsity girls soccer 15 team has brought great pride to not only their friends and family 16 but also to the students, faculty, alumni, and staff of Greenwood 17 Christian and the community as a whole; and 18 19 Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical 20 abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will 21 use their athletic skills and abilities in their future endeavors. 22 Now, therefore, 23 24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 25 concurring: 26 27 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 28 Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the 29 Greenwood Christian School varsity girls soccer team and their 30 coaching staff for winning the SCISA Region AA State 31 Championship and commend them on their hard work and 32 determination to become a championship team. 33 34 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 35 the Greenwood Christian varsity girls soccer team. 36 ----XX---- 37
