Chair of Chancellor Search and Screen Committee Key Responsibilities
Assist in the selection and oversight of an Executive Search Firm.
Participate in the initial “Charging” Meeting of the Search and Screen Committee with the System President and the Special Regent Committee
Plan and oversee an active recruitment campaign.
Arrange for Search and Screen Committee to meet with sitting Chancellor (or another Chancellor from within the UW System) for the purpose of understanding all of the dimensions of the position.
Oversee the budget and approve expenditures.
Respond to applicants and inquiries in a timely fashion.
Designate one key contact person to work with the media.
Oversee the development of screening criteria and voting protocol.
Keep UW System Administration and Chair of Special Regent Committee appraised of search’s progress via the two “progress report” scheduled teleconference and through e-mail and/or telephone calls as appropriate.
In collaboration with the search consultant, oversee reference checking activities.
In collaboration with the search consultant, host interview sessions for 10-12 prospective candidates.
Oversee committee’s deliberation over the selection of at least five candidates to be advanced to the President and the Special Regent Committee.
Chair debriefing meeting with the President and the Special Regent Committee and ensure the debriefing includes all relevant information and materials.
Host finalists’ visit to campus following debriefing meeting and prior to finalists’ interviews with President and Special Regent Committee. Include the sitting Chancellor as one of the people the candidates meet.
Provide the System President and the Special Regent Committee with an oral report of the finalists’ institution visits prior to the finalists’ interviews with the President and Special Regent Committee.
Prepare final report and submit to Associate Vice President for Human Resources & Workforce Diversity.
Assist the new chancellor in the “transition” phase.
