The purpose of this short circular letter is to give you some information and to ask some from you in return. Firstly, most of you will have heard that Father Vicente Zico was named Coadjutor Archbishop of Belem do Para in north-east Brazil on the 23rd of Dccember, and was ordained Bishop along with ten others by the Pope on the 6th of January in St . Peter's. To help me select a new Assistant, the Council here suggested that I consult the Visitors of Latin America, which I did. At present I am awaiting the reply of a Confrere who has been asked to become the new Assistant, and I will let you know his name as soon as I can. 1 am sure you join me in thanking M onsignor Zico for his work here in the Curia over the past six years and in wishing him a ad multos annos et beatos o in his new respon- sibilities. Next, the copies of the issue of V I NCENTIANA which con- tains the official text of our Constitutions and Statutes have been dispatched to the Provinces. You will also receive shortly a copy of an article published by Father Carlo Braga in the Annali delta Missione, 87 (1980, 171-194). We thought here that it might be of help to you in initiating study of our new Constitu- tions and Statutes in your Province. There is hardly any need for me to underline the importance of the Confreres becoming familiar with our new Constitutions and Statutes. In the short run, it is important for our Provincial Assemblies. It will be difficult to hold a successful Provincial Assembly if the Conli•eres are not familiar with our new Constitutions and Statutes. In the long run, it is very desirable that the content of our Consti- tutions and Statutes , above all, the spiritual riches which they contain , would guide and shape the living of our lives and the work of our apostolates. POST uLATUM OF GENI;R. I, ASSF\1BLY You will remember that the General Assembly approved a postulate which is entitled , << Postulatum GIEV », and is to be found on page 258 of our Constitutions and Statutes . 1 would -5- he very grateful if you would let me know before the end of March: 1. What organization exists in your Province for the pro- motion of these basic Vincentian studies? 2. Whether your Province is a member of a group of provinces promoting these studies? The reason why I seek this information is in order that we may have a clear picture of the present situation of Vincentian studies in the Provinces. With such information to hand it will be more cagy to advance the organization of such studies at an international level, as desired by the Postulatum - GIEV.

Three days later, the Assembly of the Faithful elected Samuele Morcia (b. 1972) Supreme Pontiff Samuele. The headquarters of the Church is located in the small town of Gallinaro in the Frosinone province, about 110 kilometres east of Rome. Of the nearly 2 500 church members most live in the neighbouring regions, but also other parts of Italy, particularly in Sicily, and to some extent abroad. The Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem considers itself to be the continuation of the One Holy Catholic Church. They claim that Pope Francis is no true pontiff, but a usurper who has created a new syncretic world religion that has nothing to do with Christianity. Like many similar cases, the New Jerusalem Church has a background in private revelations. Giuseppina Norcia (1940–2008), Samuele Morcia’s mother- in-law, claimed to receive visions and heavenly messages, both as a child and as an adult. After a series of revelations in 1974, she constructed a small chapel in Gallinaro, La Piccola Culla del Bambino Gesù–the Little Cradle of Baby Jesus– which soon became a popular pilgrimage site, where many people claimed to be healed.

Blanchard, B.A., MSt. A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School, Marquette University, in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Milwaukee, Wisconsin May 2018 ABSTRACT EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY FORERUNNERS OF VATICAN II: EARLY MODERN CATHOLIC REFORM AND THE SYNOD OF PISTOIA Shaun L. Blanchard Marquette University, 2018 This dissertation sheds further light on the nature of church reform and the roots of the Second Vatican Council (1962–65) through a study of eighteenth-century Catholic reformers who anticipated Vatican II. The most striking of these examples is the Synod of Pistoia (1786), the high-water mark of “late Jansenism.” Most of the reforms of the Synod were harshly condemned by Pope Pius VI in the Bull Auctorem fidei (1794), and late Jansenism was totally discredited in the increasingly ultramontane nineteenth-century Catholic Church. Nevertheless, many of the reforms implicit or explicit in the Pistoian agenda – such as an exaltation of the role of bishops, an emphasis on infallibility as a gift to the entire church, religious liberty, a simpler and more comprehensible liturgy that incorporates the vernacular, and the encouragement of lay Bible reading and Christocentric devotions – were officially promulgated at Vatican II.

Turning Point http://www.remnantnewspaper.com/Archives/archive-2007-0715-turnin... Turning Point Traditional Mass Never Abrogated, Triduum Not ‘Banned’, Traditional Sacraments Restored Christopher A. Ferrara REMNANT COLUMNIST, New Jersey Summorum Pontificum will change the course of history. But along with the liberals, “conservative” Catholic spokesmen still present an obstacle to the restoration of the Church. (Posted July 19, 2007 www.RemnantNewspaper.com) The Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum establishes a turning point in the history of the Church and therefore of the world. The document is a masterpiece of skillful drafting that accomplishes a precise and quite dramatic legal result, but without explicitly declaring to adverse parties the consequences of its own terms. Both proponents and opponents of the Motu Proprio, however, know quite well what the document does in principle. In its press release concerning Summorum Pontificum, the Society of Saint Pius X stated that it “rejoices to see the Church thus regain her liturgical Tradition, and give the possibility of a free access to the treasure of the Traditional Mass for the glory of God, the good of the Church and the salvation of souls, to the priests and faithful who had so far been deprived of it. The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X extends its deep gratitude to the Sovereign Pontiff for this great spiritual benefit.” In his own press release, Abe Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith complained: “We are extremely disappointed and deeply offended that nearly 40 years after the Vatican rightly removed insulting anti-Jewish language from the Good Friday Mass, that it would now permit Catholics to utter such hurtful and insulting words by praying for Jews to be converted.” (As Pat Buchanan retorted: “If one believes, as devout Catholics do, that Christ and his Church hold the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, it would be anti-Semitic not to pray for the conversation of the Jews.

Baby Jesus and the Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem in Gallinaro, Italy Magnus Lundberg [email protected] [Preliminary Version, July 2020] Introduction 3 Giuseppina Norcia and La Piccola Culla 6 The Official Church’s Reactions and the Movement’s Response 11 The Foundation of the New Jerusalem Church 17 Challenges and Controversies 22 Concluding Remarks: From Movement to Church 25 References 28 2 Introduction La Chiesa Cristiana Universale della Nuova Gerusalemme–The Universal Christian Church of the New Jerusalem–was founded on October 4, 2015.
