JAMES E.B. “JIM” 12 WALLACE FOR HIS SIXTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED 13 SERVICE AS ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER AND 14 SCOUTMASTER TO BOY SCOUT TROOP 312 IN IRMO. 15 16 Whereas, the Senate notes that, after sixteen years of dedicated 17 service, eight as assistant scoutmaster and, more recently, eight as 18 scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 312 in Irmo, Mr. James E.B. 19 “Jim” Wallace is stepping down from the post he has filled so 20 admirably for so long; and 21 22 Whereas, during his sixteen years of service to the troop, Jim 23 Wallace led hundreds of boys on monthly campouts and hikes, as 24 well as on an expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; 25 and 26 27 Whereas, a man of faith and an active member of the sponsoring 28 Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Irmo, he served as 29 troop chaplain and patiently shepherded boys toward the right 30 path, never missing an opportunity to tell a poignant story that 31 guided boys and other adult leaders alike. Typically, he would 32 “hold court” in the meadow of Camp Old Indian in Greenville 33 during summer camp, where the campers soon came to appreciate 34 his grandfatherly understanding and wisdom; and 35 36 Whereas, greatly desiring his scouts to grow into fine men, Jim 37 Wallace made time during each troop meeting for a “scoutmaster’s 38 minute,” during which he would introduce a point on 39 self-improvement, on having a spirit of gratitude for gifts and 40 blessings, and other important life lessons; and 41

1 [839] 1 1 Whereas, his troop members will remember him as a caring 2 scoutmaster who always had an extra flashlight or sleeping bag for 3 boys who had forgotten them and who, as a Dutch oven chef, 4 dished up the most tantalizing paella and chicken provençale; and 5 6 Whereas, Mr. Wallace’s commitment to enriching the lives and 7 developing the character and leadership abilities of countless 8 young men has earned him the well-deserved gratitude of several 9 generations of young men and their parents; and 10 11 Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in recognizing 12 individuals who have fostered the youth of this great State and is 13 privileged to join with Mr. Wallace’s friends at the Boy Scouts of 14 America in honoring his selfless, generous giving of time and 15 talent to this worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore, 16 17 Be it resolved by the Senate: 18 19 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 20 express appreciation to Mr. James E.B. “Jim” Wallace for his 21 sixteen years of dedicated service as assistant scoutmaster and 22 scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 312 in Irmo. 23 24 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 25 Mr. Jim Wallace. 26 ----XX---- 27
