Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter Project SEE: Science and Everyday Experiences

Come ‘SEE’ how Science is used in Everyday Experiences for middle school students (6th, 7th and 8th graders)

December 1, 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends:

The North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., proudly introduces our program that is designed to get middle school students involved, excited, and motivated about science. The focus of the program is to show how every day experiences are indeed, miniature science experiments at work. The opportunity will help to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of Chemistry, Engineering and Mathematics with laboratory experiments, team challenges, and peer interactions that connect learning to everyday life.

In 2002, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the AAAS Directorate for Education and Human Resources Programs, began developing and implementing the 5-year Science and Everyday Experiences (SEE) Initiative, an informal science education project funded by the National Science Foundation. The SEE Initiative helps parents and caregivers of African-American middle school aged children develop effective ways to support children's informal science and mathematics learning experiences. It is our belief that a memorable experience that involves active participation in exciting and challenging experiments, coupled with the development of mentor and peer relationships, has the potential to positively impact the future educational and career decisions of the students who participate in this program.

As this program heads into its eleventh year in existence, we look forward to having you and your family partner with us! Please see below for program details and dates, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

We hope to ‘SEE’ you at the kickoff!

Sincerely,

Pamela D. Pujo Rosalind A. Samuels Chapter President Project SEE Committee Chair Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter Project SEE: Science and Everyday Experiences
