UBC POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATION TRAVEL AWARD APPLICATION Invitation to apply for a $600 travel award to attend the 2015 Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Scholars (CAPS-ACSP) held jointly with the 2015 Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Administrators (CAPA) conference. The adjudication of this award will be performed by the UBC Postdoctoral Association (http://blogs.ubc.ca/ubcpda/) and supported by the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (http://www.scwist.ca/). CAPS-ACSP exists as a committee of postdoctoral scholars and representatives who meet regularly to discuss issues arising across the country with the ultimate goal of improving the postdoctoral experience for postdoctoral researchers. The aims of CAPS-ACSP are: 1. To provide a focal point for the expression of the views and needs of postdoctoral scientists at national, regional and institutional levels in matters concerning postdocs. 2. To facilitate the establishment of best practice polices for the postdoctoral training and work environment, and to encourage their implementation by institutions and postdocs. 3. To provide support to existing institutional postdoctoral associations as well as aid in the establishment of new postdoctoral associations at institutions that currently have no such association. 4. To enter into meaningful dialogue with the appropriate institutional representatives, funding agencies, professional organizations, and government bodies to identify solutions and bring about improvements in the current postdoctoral situation at the national level. The AGM will take place in Calgary on October 29th and 30th 2015 at the Hyatt Regency, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Administrators (CAPA) (http://postdoc.ca/). INSTRUCTIONS Eligibility Eligible applicants must:  Be a UBC postdoctoral fellow.  Must be a SCWIST member.  Men and women are welcome to apply. Conditions of the Award The successful applicant must:  Send the SCWIST Director of Communications a blog post (500-800 words) within four weeks of completing the trip via email ([email protected]).  Consent to the essay part of the application and the blog post being published on the SCWIST web page.  Consent to SCWIST interviewing the candidate, publishing the interview on the SCWIST web page and promoting the interview via social media channels.  Agree to take at least three photos at the event and provide SCWIST with unlimited rights to use the photos for marketing. Payment Information We will pay for your registration to the conference in advance ($100) and issue you a cheque for the remaining amount to be used for airfare and accommodations.
