Dordt College Teacher Education Program Overview

Conceptual Framework (Dordt College Teacher Education Program Overview)

Context

The Teacher Education Program at Dordt College originated with the college itself and from its inception has been based on the confessional stance of the college. Dordt College is founded on a commitment to the Scriptures as the Word of God. Fundamental to this religious commitment are the biblical teachings of the sovereignty of God over all creation, the unity and diversity in creation brought about by the Son of God, and the accountability of each creature to the sovereign Ruler who demands service in obedience to Him. Because of the disobedience of God's image bearers, human beings and all of creation are subjected to misery and death except that God has restored the covenantal bond through Jesus Christ. Now the redeemed people of God are able to work as God's agents in a creation that, while still groaning under the effects of sin, has ultimately been rescued from the curse of Satan's control.

Recognizing the God-assigned task to work for the expression of God's kingdom in all areas of life, the college established itself as an institution of higher learning that embraces many kinds of programs, including teacher education. For elaboration on the context of the Teacher Education Program at Dordt College, consult The Educational Task of Dordt College and The Educational Framework of Dordt College. Both documents are available from the Director of Teacher Education.
