Gullick 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\rm\1337ab08.doc 11 12 Introduced in the House on February 5, 2008 13 Introduced in the Senate on February 5, 2008 14 Adopted by the General Assembly on February 5, 2008 15 16 Summary: Charles Powers 17 18 19 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 20 21 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 22 2/5/2008 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-21 23 2/5/2008 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-23 24 25 26 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 27 28 2/5/2008 29 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE CHARLES POWERS OF 12 YORK COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS 13 AS MAYOR OF FORT MILL, HIS COMMITMENT TO THE 14 CITIZENS OF FORT MILL, AND HIS SUPPORT OF THE 15 BUSINESS COMMUNITY. 16 17 Whereas, the Honorable Charles “Charlie” Powers of Fort Mill has 18 proven himself a friend of the Town of Fort Mill, the York County 19 Regional Chamber of Commerce and business community, and all 20 of York County for many years; and 21 22 Whereas, a dedicated public servant, Mr. Powers admirably served 23 the Town of Fort Mill in various capacities for thirty years, 24 including a twenty-four-year tenure as mayor during which he led 25 the town through unparalleled growth; and 26 27 Whereas, as mayor, Mr. Powers spearheaded efforts to secure 28 funding for projects vital to Fort Mill and the township, including 29 Doby’s Bridge Park and the Northern Bypass, and, as a citizens’ 30 advocate on the issue of taxation, he supported commercial and 31 corporate growth as a means of expanding the town’s tax base; and 32 33 Whereas, an avid promoter of the town’s signature events, such as 34 the annual Christmas parade and the Fest-I-Fun festival, Mr. 35 Powers faithfully conducted all his civic duties in light of his 36 motto, “…for the good of the citizens of Fort Mill”; and 37 38 Whereas, for his many achievements on behalf of Fort Mill’s 39 citizenry, Mr. Powers was named the Chamber of Commerce 40 Citizen of the Year, Lion of the Year, and Jaycee of the Year, and 41 was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor David M. 42 Beasley; and

1 [4643] 1 1 2 Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in 3 recognizing the dedicated labors of such public servants as Charles 4 Powers, and the members extend grateful appreciation and best 5 wishes for the future as he continues to serve the citizens of Fort 6 Mill. Now, therefore, 7 8 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 9 concurring: 10 11 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this 12 resolution, commend the Honorable Charles Powers of York 13 County for his outstanding achievements as mayor of Fort Mill, his 14 commitment to the citizens of Fort Mill, and his support of the 15 business community. 16 17 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 18 the Honorable Charles Powers of York County. 19 ----XX---- 20
