Five giants treading lightly Contractor Diego Campari relies on JUMBO Power from Pöttinger

In Cremona, Italy, Diego Campari owns an 80 hectare farm and also runs a highly successful business as an agricultural contractor. With five employees and four drivers Campari offers professional services in grassland and arable. His largest customer is the forage drying plant in Cremona. Campari takes care of the entire grassland harvest for the Consorzio Agrario Provinciale drying plant located in Cremona, Italy. The work involves mowing, windrowing, loading and transporting around 1,200 hectares of lucerns in six cuts per year. "A huge challenge!", explains Campari, because the fields are on average 60 kilometres away from the drying plant. The clover is mowed and allowed to dry on the ground for between one and one-and- a-half days. This allows the crop to lose 30 to 40% of its moisture. The crop is then raked using side-mounted windrowers. Then it is time to bring on the five giants. All of the Pöttinger Jumbo silage wagons are fitted with a Tridem chassis to distribute heavy loads over a large surface area. The fleet consists of four JUMBO 7200 self- loading wagons, plus a JUMBO 8000 L wagon, drawn by New Holland tractors in the power class 160 to 260 hp. The silage wagons have half their knives removed because a cut length of six to ten centimetres is sufficient for drying grasses. Loaded with around eleven tonnes of half-dried crop, it is time to hit the road where the Profi-chassis again comes into a class of its own. The hydraulic suspension and steered axle protect the sward in the field and provide optimum driving comfort on the road. "That is how we maintain maximum transport speeds even when fully-loaded and ensure that we really keep making progress", says the satisfied contractor. Despite the considerable travelling distances these trailers achieve a total of 20 loads per day, adding up to 220 tonnes of half-dry forage, or an area of 50 hectares. At the grass drying plant the forage is subjected to a second drying process and then baled. Campari's contractor fleet has really drawn a great deal of attention. "There has been a continuous increase in inquiries. Everybody can see that we offer a perfect, high- performance harvesting convoy. That is why we have ordered another JUMBO 8000 Tridem self-loader so that we have even more performance available for the 2006
