The Scout Camping program of the [name] Council provides Scouts one of the finest opportunities to grow and mature, for the first time perhaps, on his won away from home, in his relations with others, in his mastery of building confidence and self respect, and in sharing and cooperating in a camp community.
In these busy times, many activities compete for a youth’s interest and hard-earned savings. Some activities are less wholesome and others are downright dangerous. Scouting needs to inform, encourage, enthuse, and excite a boy to choose to go to camp with his troop and experience the fun of the outdoors. This calls for a thorough summer camp promotion campaign - notices, flyers, charts, and reports - and a camp savings card to teach boys about thrift and “paying one’s own way.” This important service is part of the [name] Council’s budge and needs to be raised from community resources.
Your support of this program will help us bring boys to camp where they can learn about the true American way of life - sharing, helping, leading and growing.

Prepared for [Name] Scout Ranch Campsite Improvement
Project: Build fifty new campsite tent platforms this winter for a total cost of [amount]. Each platform is used to support 6’ x 8’ canvas tents that house youth, leaders, and staff for the council’s campaign programs.
Description: Attendance at Scout Ranch has skyrocketed from [number] youth in 19__ to [number] in 19__ - a [percentage] increase in [number] years. This increase is a testimony to the quality of programming, greater promotion, and improved management of the overall campaign program. Along with this growth comes the responsibility to maintain facilities to meet the new demands. The facilities that take the brunt of this growing program are the tent platforms in each campsite.
Scout Ranch currently maintains 300 tent platforms with a capacity of 600 people. Each year it is necessary to replace existing platforms and to add additional platforms. As the camp has extended the weeks of summer operation and witnessed increased off-season use, the wear and tear on campsite platforms has increased dramatically. Evaluations from adult leaders attending camp consistently agree that replacement of old platforms must be kept a high priority.
The annual maintenance budget provides for the replacement of twenty platforms, but with the increase use, this has not been sufficient to keep up with the replacement need. Funding for this project will enable the ranch to build a total of [number] new platforms for 199__ and to catch up with the replacement schedule.
The current annual replacement rate is being increased from twenty to forty and a new design with pressure-treated lumber is being used to increase platform life span. Funding at this time is critical so that the ranch ranger can begin construction during the winter, have them ready for pressure treatment in the early spring, and installment by volunteers in the late spring.
Construction cost per platform is [amount]. The cost is kept remarkably low because the ranch is able to purchase lumber directly from a sawmill at [Name] Lake. The total cost to build fifty platforms is [amount].
This project will help the [name] Council to maintain safe facilities at the ranch, increase camper capacity, and improve the condition of existing campsites as we continue to use the camping program to impact the lives of a projected [number] young people in 199__. Although not glamorous, facility maintenance is vital to the council’s ability to offer programs that strengthen the mind, body, and sprit of young people.
Thank you for your consideration of this important project.
