Wednesday 28th June

The Three Fishes Mitton Road, Mitton Whalley BB7 9PQ

From M65 Junction 7 take A6185 to Accrington/Clitheroe, at the roundabout take 1st exit A6185 onto Dunkenhalgh Way. At the traffic lights turn right onto Blackburn Road A678, then left onto Whalley Road A680 and follow for 3 miles. Turn left onto Accrington Road B6246 for about 1/2 mile then turn right onto King Street. At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Station Road B6246. Continue for about 3 miles the pub is on the left.

Meet at 10.30 to order and pay for food before the walk which will start at 11:00 prompt and return at 1:30. You can either choose from the normal menu or Steak and Ale Pie, Fish and Chips or Cheese and Onion Pie for £11, with complementary tea or coffee for everybody. The walk is flat and easy with a short climb away from the river at Mitton and approx 5 miles long.

This weeks walk is from the Farmers Arms, Chorley Rd, Bispham, Nr Parbold L40 3SL From M6 Junction 27 roundabout take the Parbold exit on the A5209. Stay on this road down Parbold Hill. Turn right onto the B5246 and go straight through the village of Hilldale and you will find the pub on your left.

Alternatively from the A59 in Burscough take the A5209, heading East towards Parbold and as you approach Parbold Hill, turn left onto the B5246. Pass through the village of Hilldale and the pub is on your left.

We will cover 5.7 miles and have a mixture of fields, lanes and paths,with one steepish climb and hopefully back at the pub by 1.30pm.

Meet at 10.30am for an 11am start. Please order and pay for lunch before we leave. There are sandwiches, lite bites and the normal pub menu. Leader: Jean Leece

Wednesday 26th July

The walk will start at the cricket ground 'White Coppice' at 11.00am. Meet at 'Red Cat' order food as normal and leave before 10.45am. Drive to White Coppice, park at cricket ground or on approach track. Allow time to get into walking gear.

Directions From M65 J3 Follow A674 Wheelton, At approx 3.2 miles turn right, signed Whittle-le-Woods, then first left, then straight ahead into car park. From M61 J8 Follow A674 Blackburn, at approx 1 mile continue past the Red Cat on left for 150mts then go left, left, and straight ahead into the car park. From Red Cat to White Coppice Go back to the main road (A 674) turn left and immediate right into Chapel Lane, at 1 mile turn shape right then at 200 mtrs turn left signed White Coppice. At 0.6 miles continue ahead onto rough track to the cricket ground. Other Info The walk is only 4.5 miles to allow time for driving. It will start with a short sharp climb approx 100 mtrs(weather dependent), then include a little moor, field and lane but mainly well walked paths. Limited parking so car share were possible to the start of the walk. If travelling with someone else, remember to take plastic bags for possible wet walking gear. No dogs or zimmers.

Wednesday 2nd Aug The Jolly Carter 168 Church St Little Lever Bolton BL3 1BW

From Junction 4 M61, turn left at the roundabout and follow signs for Farnworth. Turn right at the traffic lights onto Plodder Lane and follow this long lane over a mini roundabout and through 3 sets of traffic lights. At the T junction, turn left and keep left at Apollo Motors, following signs for Little Lever. At the Railway pub turn left then get into the right lane to turn right at Moses Gate - signs for Little Lever. After about 1 mile, pass Little Lever School on the left and after the Gulf Petrol station look out for the car park sign which is BEFORE the pub hidden behind a big tree on the side of a red brick house!!!

From Bolton Centre A666, St Peters Way towards Manchester, take the exit to Little Lever and at the end of the slip road turn left at the traffic lights. Then as above pass Little Lever School etc. The walk explores the area between Radcliffe and Kearsley, where the River Irwell/Croal meanders through farms, woodland and disused stretches of canal. Mostly flat. 6 miles. Please order and pay for food before we leave for the walk at 11.00 PROMPT, returning 1.30 - 1.45

Directions: From the M65 exit at junction 3, take the A674 onto Chorley Road, follow this for about 3 miles. Turn left onto Briers Brow the pub is on the left with ample parking on the car park opposite. From M61/Chorley exit at junction 8 from the M61, follow the A674 for about 3 miles. Turn right onto Briers Brow the pub is on the left with ample parking on the car park opposite.

This week's walk is from the Barley Mow Pub in Barley Village, Pendle, BB12 9JX. The pub has a small car park used by residents so please park at the nearby Barley Picnic area car park (£1) or park on the roadside near there. The Barley Mow is just past the Pendle Inn, on the right. Book your meal and then the walk will start from the Barley Mow at 11.00. It will be a 5 miles moderate walk. We won't be walking up Pendle Hill but we will be skirting round it – at this point there will be places that are muddy and rough underfoot.

From M65 exit J13 - At the roundabout take the 2nd left (Barrowford). After about 1 mile turn left by the White Bear pub onto Pasture Lane. If you see Booths you have gone passed. Stay on this road until you come to Roughlee – at the T Junction (Bay Horse Inn opposite) turn left. Stay on this road until you come to the crossroads and then turn right (signposted Barley) for about ¾ mile and the Barley Picnic car park is on your right.

From the A59 - Go past Clitheroe and turn left on the A671 signposted to the hospital and Clitheroe. At the roundabout turn right for Chatburn. Go into the village and turn right signposted to Downham (ice cream shop on the corner). Go through Downham village and turn left immediately after the little bridge onto Pendle Road. Follow this for about 2 miles to a crossroad (Four Lane Ends). Turn right and follow this road (Barley Lane) to Barley, then turn left toward the far end of the village and left again into the car park.

Track & level 5 ½ mile field walk with slippery stiles. A tale about a carp pond and Preston “ethical business”, through a holly arch and back to the pub. Returning to the pub 1.45pm. 3 course menu £11.95, 2 courses £ 9.95, single course £ 7.95

Plus main menu selection M6 / 32 A6 1 mile north “Lancaster & Longridge”, right at the Broughton Inn traffic lights. B 5269, Whittingham Lane. The Plough at Eaves PH Eaves Lane. Cuddy Hill Directions: From M6 Junction 32 leave and come down to the A6. Pass under the Motorway and drive north to Broughton traffic lights. Turn left off A6 onto B5269 then after 2 miles fork right. At left hand bend, turn right onto Hollowforth Lane and eventually cross Canal. Left at junction onto Eaves Lane and find Plough at Eaves on right after less than a mile.

Directions From M6 J27 Northbound (avoiding Standish) At end of slip road turn left then turn right (100mtrs) onto B5250 at side of BP petrol station, then at approx 500mtrs turn right into Boundary Lane which becomes Pepper Lane, at the end (mini round about, no signs.) turn left onto A49, at approx 3.8 miles pub on LHS. From Parbold direction 100 mtrs before M6 J27 turn left at side of BP service station then follow as above. From Wigan Area Pub is on LHS of A49 approx 4.9 miles North of Standish traffic lights. From M6 J28 Southbound At end of slip road turn right, stay in RH lane then at traffic lights turn right onto A49, at approx 3.7 miles pub is on RHS.. From M65 Follow M6 South. From M61 J8 At end of slip road turn left, follow Euxton sign, at 1st roundabout turn left, at 2nd roundabout turn right, at 3rd roundabout take 2nd exit B5252( Southport/Croston). At 4th roundabout turn right Euxton A581. At 5th mini roundabout turn left onto A49 pub is 1.1 miles on RHS.

Other Info The walk is 6 miles on Lanes, Tracks & Fields, Flat. We can order food but we can't pay before 11.00am, therefore pay when ordering drinks. This is a Carvery plus other good size menu. small Carvery plus either soup of the day or dessert of the day £6.95 The pub has just been taken over by Joseph Holt so the web site may not be up to date, but those who know about something called Facebook could get more information. Farmers Arms, Wood Lane, Heskin, Nr Chorley PR7 5NP

From M6 Junction 27 roundabout take the Parbold exit. Going West and almost immediately turn right onto the B5250 (Mossy Lea Rd) and stay on this road for 3.25 miles through Wrightington and into Heskin. The pub is on the right. Alternatively take the A49 from Euxton and through Charnock Richard, turning right at the mini roundabout signposted Eccleston passing Park Hall. Turn left at the T-junction onto the B5250 and the pub is almost immediately on the left.

The walk will be approx 4.5 miles of tracks, lanes and fields.

Meet at 10.30am for an 11am start. Please order and pay for lunch before we leave.

Directions:- from Junc 8 M61, take A674 towards Chorley. At roundabout follow signs for Hospital/Southport.Turn right at the traffic lights onto B5262, signpost Euxton/Southport. Pass Hospital. At roundabout, take 2nd exit onto West Way. After about 1 mile at the roundabout turn left, then take the right lane. Turn left onto Foxhole Rd, pub on right. The Fieldfare is a Marstons 2 for 1 pub on all mains including specials. There is also a lunch menu £6 with a drink.

The walk is relatively easy, approx 6 miles on quiet lanes, open fields and riverside paths. Please order and pay for food before the walk, which will leave at 11am prompt

Wednesday 27th September

The walk on 27th September will start promptly at 11.00am from The Chetham Arms, 83 High Street, Chapeltown, BL7 0EW.

From junction 4 on the M65 head south on the A666 through Darwen toward Bolton, and once in open country look out for the B6391 on the left toward Chapeltown.

From Bolton take the A676 heading north east towards Ramsbottom, and turn left onto the B6391 heading north toward Bromley Cross and on to Chapeltown. Meet at 10.30am, order and pay for your lunch before the walk.

Please note the pub car park is not large, please share cars if at all possible. This will be an energetic hilly walk of just over five and a quarter miles, with a couple of challenging sections due to the nature of the ground underfoot. If you occasionally use poles then bring them. In the event of inclement weather on the day an alternative lower level route will be used which is Relatively flat

From the M6 Junc 32 come down to the A6 and go north to the Traffic Lights at Broughton. Left turn onto B5269 through Broughton. Left fork onto B5411 and go south into Woodplumpton. The Wheatsheaf is on the left.

From Preston drive up Tom Benson Way B6241. At top roundabout left onto the B5411 and pass over the M55 and follow into Woodplumpton. The Wheatsheaf is on the right opposite the Church.

Wednesday 4th October The Blue Anchor Bretherton

From the M61 Junc 8. Follow signs for Southport. From Motorway head for Chorley then LT at The Hartford Restaurant. RT down Euxton Lane past Chorley Hospital then 2nd left at roundabout onto B5251. RT onto A581. LT onto A49 then RT at Euxton Mills PH. Follow for 5 miles into Croston B5249. Then onto Bretherton after crossing Railway Bridge. The Blue Anchor is on the left.

From Preston. South down A59 then just after Much Hoole LT at Mini roundabout sp Bretherton Croston Eccleston B5247. The Blue Anchor is on the right at top of Bretherton Village just after RHB.

The pub will be open at 10.45 to use the Toilets.

Directions: From the M65 exit at junction 3, take the A674 onto Chorley Road, follow this for about 31/2 miles. Turn right onto Blackburn Road, after 200yds turn left to stay on Blackburn Road, then slight right onto Town Lane. Take the first right onto Copthurst Lane follow the road and the pub is on the right with parking on the car park opposite.

From M61/Chorley exit at junction 8 from the M61, follow the A674. Turn left onto Blackburn Road after 200yds turn left to stay on Blackburn Road then slight right onto Town Lane. Take the first right onto Copthurst Lane the pub is on the right with parking on the car park opposite.

Meet at 10:30 to order and pay for food. The pub is offering 3 hot mains for £9, Steak and Pepper Pot Pie, Fish n Chips and Cheese and Onion Pie plus the sandwich menu.

Leader Carol 07833510719 Wednesday 25th October Today's walk will start at the Bob's Smithy Inn, 1448 Chorley Old Road, Bolton, BL1 7PX.

It has a small car park so the owner has asked that we park on the road and not in the car park.

Meet at the pub for 10.30 to allow time to book and pay for your meal. The walk will start at 11.00 and return between 1.30 and 1.45.

M61 Junction 6 exit onto DeHavilland Way/A6027 towards Bolton North/Horwich. At the roundabout take 2nd exit and stay on DeHavilland Way/A6027 towards Bolton. Straight through the traffic lights. At the next roundabout (the Beehive Pub is opposite) turn right towards Bolton. After about 1.5 miles turn left at the traffic lights (Victoria Road). After ~1 mile turn left at traffic lights onto Old Kiln Lane. Continue for ~1 mile until you come to a crossroads and you'll see the pub opposite on the corner. Go straight across onto Walker Fold Road and park by the side of the road.

This is a hilly walk and can be rough underfoot in places, with 2 stiles. We will be crossing a field with cows and their calves so no dogs today please.

The walk is just a little over 5 miles.

Wednesday 1st November

The walk on Wednesday will be from The Brewers Fayre. Queen Victoria Road Burnley BB103EF. The walk will commence at 11am and be about 5.8 miles. It is an easy walk through the parks. No stiles or fields. Please order and pay for the food before the walk. There may be parking meters in operation in the car park but the cost is refundable from food and drink. If you don't want to eat there is a free car park just past the pub on the left.

Directions. Take M65 motorway to Burnley and leave at Junction 9. Take A679 towards Burnley. At traffic lights by the cemetery turn right on A646 to Halifax. Go straight across at traffic lights on Manchester road then at T junction turn left on Todmorden Road towards Burnley. At traffic lights by the football field go straight across on Belvedere Road. This then becomes Queen Victoria and the pub is on the left just past the fire station.

Directions: From Preston. A59 for 12 miIes. The Hesketh Arms is on the right in the centre of Rufford From M61 Junc 8 Chorley. Follow Southport signs and pick up A581. Through Euxton & Croston. At A59 turn right and follow A59 as above. Wednesday 29th November The Gerrard Arms. Bolton Rd. Aspull. WN2 1PZ Map Ref SD628075. Sat Nav. 53.563N 2.563W

The walk will cover local farmland for the first part then we will continue to walk the length of Borsdane Wood back to the Gerrard Arms. Borsdane Wood is described as an ancient semi natural woodland which dates back to Saxon times.

Directions: Heading southbound on the M61 Motorway, exit at Junction 6 and turn right crossing the bridge. Continue to roundabout and turn left onto the A6 then right into Dicconson Lane which continues into Bolton Road and The Gerrard Arms is located on the left hand side.

Directions from M6 J27 and A49 Head for Standish then follow signs, B5239 Haigh and Aspull, Pass through Haigh, then at double roundabout in Aspull continue straight across into Bolton Rd. Pub is a further 1 mile on RHS.

We are to meet at 10.30 to begin walking at 11.00 am and coffee will be available before the walk. There is car parking to the rear of the pub and additional parking at the end Mill Lane if required.

Meet at the Farmers Arms for 10.30am. Please park to the back of the large car park. Pre-order and pay for your meal if you are eating after the walk. The walk will start at 11am and will be about 5.5 miles. Mostly flat on lanes, tracks and fields.

From the M6 junction 27 head towards Parbold on the A5209 and at the bottom of Parbold Hill turn right onto the B5246. Stay on this road for approx. 2 miles [do not follow the B5246 when it makes a sharp left turn at the start of Hilldale village] and the pub is on your left.

From the A59 in Burscough take the A5209 towards Parbold and soon after the traffic lights at the bottom of Parbold Hill turn left onto the B5246.Stay on this road for approx. 2 miles [do not follow the B5246 when it makes a sharp left turn at the start of Hilldale village] and the pub is on your left.

Wednesday 13th December Christmas Walk from The Ley Inn

Meet at 10.30 for 11.00 for a short walk around Cuerden Valley From M6 Leave M6 at Jn 28 onto B5256 head east towards Chorley, straight on at traffic lights, after 3/4 mile (immediately after speed camera) turn right into Back Lane, the Ley Inn is on the left.

From M65 Leave M65 at Jn 1 onto M6 south towards Birmingham, take first exit i.e. Jn 28 and continue onto B5256 as above.

From M61 Leave M61 at Jn 8 sign post Chorley onto A674. At roundabout take 3rd exit onto A6 North towards Clayton le Woods. After 2.7 miles at the roundabout take the first exit onto Sheep Hill Lane shortly after mini roundabout turn left into Woodend Rd at the roundabout in take 2nd exit into Back Lane, Ley Inn is on the right.

Starting time for meal: 12.30 for 13.00

From M65 J3 take the A675 towards Bolton (passing through Abbey Village), after about 4 miles turn left to Tockholes, past the visitor centre and the Royal Arms, continue through the village and in about 3 miles the Rock Inn is on the left.

From M65 J4 take the road towards Darwen and turn right at the lights.Take the first left under the motorway bridge to Tockholes. At the cross roads by the pub turn left and over the motorway. The Rock Inn is on the right shortly after entering the village.
