Report from our EC Representatives: Olya, Susan  December Meeting and MWM

 Announcements o Groups within SCRA are in the process of preparing budget requests. o Reminder for members to renew membership.  Discussion on support of the Online Learning Initiative will take place during the Mid- Winter Meeting

Practice Council Leadership Evolution [Sharon Facilitates] - One nomination received for Carlos Luis o He is interested in becoming a co-chair because he has enjoyed collaborations within the Practice Council such as working on the new website, blog, and additional workgroups within the Practice Council. Carlos wishes to serve, learn, and have an opportunity for personal growth by becoming co-chair. - Election Procedures o Members will receive a link Monday December 16, 2013; please cast your vote once the link is received. All “active” members of the Practice Council (those who have participated in at least one call this year) are encouraged to vote by 12/20.

Annual Report to SCRA and Budget Requests [Sharon and Olya] - Provide a report to the EC and describe what the Practice Council accomplished in 2013.(Sharon will send requests) - Please respond to request for information by December 18 to [email protected] - Just a couple of sentences are needed, summarize what you did. - Budget needs are to be included with the report o Practice Council requests funds for only a few of its initiatives. Since note below on Minigrant funding needs Annual January Planning Meeting [Tom] - Brainstorming and planning meeting. - Assess past year (SWOT) - Hopes and visions, everyone will have an opportunity to talk. Building on the success of last year’s meeting. - Membership, Recruitment and Retention - Recruiting for the call. Important that we hear all voices.

Practice Award [Tom] - Process proposal for future years - One nomination submitted for the 2013 award. Other names were saved. - There is a need for a Practice Award Committee to generate nominations. o One suggestion is to have last 5 Practice Award winners to serve on the committee and be responsible for nominations. o Another suggestion is to make the Practice Council in charge of finding nominations.

 Discussions from last meeting on joint initiatives a..1. Summer Institute

a..1.a. CEP is interested in learning what task and role they should serve in the SI. Group agreed that CEP involvement is necessary.

a..1.b. Possible task for CEP will be coordinating with universities, or working on getting students credit at their home universities

a..1.c. Summer Institute committee member to join next CEP call (January 7th to discuss roles.

a..2. Online Practitioner List a..2.a. Web-based list is the initial thought

a..3. Looking for those who are interested/experienced in curriculum mapping/ core competencies and can help design one with the CEP. a..3.a. Vince is willing to assist if needed

a..4. The placement of community psychology in undergraduate textbooks. a..4.a. Would like to share an update with the PC and possibly collaborate with CEP. b. Community Psychology Institutes

 Summer Institute – Professional Development Committee (Susan)

b..1. Exploring possible sites and dates b..2. Contacting AEA and other organizations to learn their successes

 Highlander Institute Training (Gloria)

b..1. Came out of the Summit in the group of Community Psychologist returning to their radical roots

b..2. Training can accommodate 25-30 people b..3. One possible training topic is Participatory Action Research (PAR)

b..3.a. Those who have knowledge from a community psychology perspective on PAR contact Gloria Levin.

2. Enhance the visibility of Community Psychology Practice within the field by increasing number of publications and conference presentations focused on Community Psychology Practice and related issues. [Tom Facilitates]

 Visioning

o “Spotlight” is a feature on the homepage of the new SCRA website. The Practice Council has the chance to display a personalized spotlight that captures the PC and attracts visitors to the Practice webpage. . Possible ideas for PC spotlight

o An email has been sent by Kyrah requesting members to send in photos from CP conferences/biennials or photos from your work in practice settings. 3. Engage in outreach efforts to those outside of SCRA., including members of allied fields, members of other divisions of APA, and the general public. [Sharon Facilitates] a. Summary of new online community psychology learning proposal (Bill B.)

. Draft submitted to the EC at the end of November . Looking for volunteers who are interested in online work and webinars to be a part of the implementation. What piece can you take? This will help with getting the proposal passed by the EC.

4. Support the career development of Practitioners and the market for Community Psychology Practitioners. [Tom Facilitates] a. Gathering Practice Resources/List of Practitioners – Survey for consultation etc. to academic departments (Dave J.) a. Survey is in the final draft on paper. a.i. Dave Will convert survey to qualtrics b. Dissemination of survey b.i. Send out on SCRA listserv b.ii. Sharon will work with CEP to disseminate survey link and draft cover letter in multiple venues c. Data will serve as a directory, ideally the directory will be an online searchable c.i. Susan, Sharon, Ashley B. and Dave will collaborate on this goal. b. Peer Consultation calls – summary of last call (Tom) a. Calls are a wonderful outlet to receive advice from peers on current practice related work. b. Next call January 24, please join us!

5. Positively impact the communities we live and work in through the use of Community Psychology principles. [Sharon Facilitates] b. Future of Mini-Grant, Leadership and Budget Request (Mike and Sharon) . Grant is three years old and funds community based projects. . Mini grant funding is up to 1200 per project . Requested 12000 every year, awarding 10 grants annually. . Group supports continuation of mini grants

o Group is interested in requesting a higher budget to award more grants or increase individual grant funding. . Current administrator, Mike, is graduating.

o Received two volunteers to serve as administrators, Kyrah and Jasmine. Both will discuss with Mike to figure out a plan.
