SQUADRON LEADERSHIP SCHOOL (SLS) OPERATIONS PLAN

3-4 March 2012

COURSE DIRECTOR: Richard Kolas, Major, CAP SLS PROJECT OFFICER: Christina Varner, 1st Lt., CAP I. GENERAL

The primary purpose of this activity is to provide SLS participants information, as provided by National Headquarters, to improve members’ practical and leadership abilities within CAP. Participants will gain or enrich their understanding of how CAP’s core values impact operations. The school is designed to prepare participants for command.

The specific objectives of the SLS will be to provide participant’s a general understanding of the basic functions of a CAP Squadron.

II. Training Location

Physical Address: Lubbock Composite Squadron Headquarters, 2201 E. Jamestown, Lubbock International Airport (in the Chaparral Jet Center).

III. Primary dates & times

Sign-in will be at 0730, Saturday 3 March, 2012 and Sunday, 4 March, 2012. Training will begin at 0800 on Saturday and Sunday and daytime activities end at 1630 (or when completed) on Saturday and Sunday.

The event staff will be organized by the project officer. Support staff and SLS instructors will be added with additions and deletions made as needed.

X. NOTIFICATION & APPLICATION

A. Notification

This training will be announced by being posted on the Group I web page and posted on the Texas Wing Calendar.

B. Application

Apply by email to SLS Project Officer, 1st Lt. Christina Varner for the course no later than 12 February 2012, by submitting CAPF 17A (application for Senior Member Activities).

C. Exercise Capacity

All CAP senior members are eligible to attend this training. Cadets who have earned their Mitchell award and will join the senior ranks within the next 90 days are also welcome. The maximum number of participants for the class is 20.

D. Course Fees

There will be no course fees for this offering of the SLS.

E. Exercise enrollment procedures All participants are required to submit a CAPF 17A. Participants will apply by email to the project officer no later than 12 February 2012. Each participant will sign-in on CAPF 11 and CAPF 103 during sign-in, prior to participation in this event.

XI. SAFETY------IS PRIORITY ONE

Participants are advised to be alert and careful at all times. Each participant must have a safety participation letter from their commander in order to attend the course and their Form 60 (Emergency Contact Information) on their person.

XII. UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS

An appropriate CAP uniform will be worn by each student and instructor — preferred uniform is Class B Blues or White Aviator Shirt or Polo shirt with Gray slacks. The new corporate uniform is also acceptable with Blazer optional. If these uniforms are not available appropriate civilian attire will be acceptable.

XIII. ADMINISTRATION

A. Course Materials

Each student will down load and print their student workbook from the CAP National Professional Development web page. The SLS course is the Level Two Course: Technical Training.

C. Sign-in

All staff and participants at the project location require sign-in on CAPF 11 and CAPF 103. (Credential Verification Procedures.) All attendees will be checked at sign-in for CAP membership card.

XIV. FACILITIES

A. Classroom Treat the facilities with the utmost respect. We expect the facilities to be returned in the same condition as it was made available, or a better condition. Items brought with you will leave with you in addition to items issued to you for the course. The attendees along with the project staff will clean the facility before departure.

B. Telephone access

There is a telephone available.

XV. LOGISTICS

A. Dining

Coffee, hot tea, juices, milk, pastry and fruit will be provided both mornings. Lunch both days will be at your own expense. Due to the location of the facility, transportation to lunch will gladly be provided by Lubbock Composite Squadron members.

B. Medical

Emergency number is 911. An intermediate-level-trained EMT will be participating in the class.

C. Transportation

The class will be held in the Chaparral Jet Center. For those members flying in using corporate aircraft, that is the requested FBO to use. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KLBB

Transportation from the FBO to lodging and from lodging to the classroom is to be arranged through the Project Officer, Christina Varner, no later than 26 February, 2012, via e-mail at [email protected] or by text message (preferred) or phone call at 806-239-8139. Current fuel prices at Chaparral are $4.67/gal, for less than 300 gallons. For those wishing to fly in commercially, you will be arriving at the main terminal of Lubbock International Airport and transportation will be arranged for travel from the Main Terminal to the classroom location, or a local motel, depending upon date of arrival.

Parking: There is no charge for parking in the Chaparral Jet Center lot. D. Lodging

Special arrangements for discounted rates have been arranged with Motel 6, Holiday Inn Express, and the Overton Hotel, with price breaks between $49.99 to $84.99 per night. Please contact the Project Officer, Christina Varner, to make your hotel arrangement via e-mail at [email protected], no later than 12 February, 2012. In this e-mail, please tell her which property you would like to be booked at, if you will be sharing a room with any other class participant or non- participant, and if you have any special needs (room on 1st floor, refrigerator, cot, etc.), and a confirmation e-mail will be returned to you with room pricing information.

XVI. CONTINGENCIES

A. The exercise may be suspended or terminated, and CAP resources reassigned, ONLY at the direction of an active Redcap Incident Commander, WG/CC, or LO; otherwise, exercises are expected to continue as planned. XVIII. SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITY
