Henry Ford was concerned for the workingman and his family. His vision changed the entire automobile industry! Although he would become a very wealthy man, Henry Ford considered himself a workingman. His dream to create “a motor car for the great multitude” was not only achieved, but also kept him true to beginnings as a working-class man. Henry Ford was born on a farm near Detroit, Michigan, in the summer of 1863. He never really enjoyed farming and left the farm at age sixteen, three years after his mother died. As a child, machines fascinated him. His pockets were always filled with nuts and bolts, and machinery parts. By the time he was thirteen he could put together a watch that kept time. This interest in machines led him to work for a while as an apprentice machinist, and later he went to work for Westinghouse servicing their steam engines, which would eventually lead him to his greatest invention.
