 Each person in the United States uses approximately 749 pounds of paper a year.

 Today, more Americans are recycling paper products than ever before – over 47 million tons of paper.

 Recycling Paper makes sense because it makes our resources go farther. Paper is also easy to recycle because it is made from wood, and it separates back into fibers when soaked in water. The recycling process produces a new paper or paperboard product out of materials that might otherwise have ended up in a landfill. Recycling is one way to help manage the solid waste we generate each year.

 Of all the environmental problems we face, garbage is one each of us can really do something about. Choices we make every day affect eh amount and types of garbage we throw away. Recycling not only makes less garbage, but we also save natural resources and energy and make less pollution.

 The average American makes about 1500 pounds of garbage each year.

 Paper and textiles make up 42% of our garbage.

 There is no way to get rid of all our garbage. The best solution is to make less, then find the most appropriate way –reuse, recycle, burn, landfill – to manage what’s left.

 By recycling one ton of paper, you save 17 trees and 6953 gallons of water.

 Glass never wears out; it can be recycled forever.

 Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100 watt bulb for four hours.

 We throw away enough iron and steel to continuously supply all the nation’s automakers.

 In America, 1500 aluminum cans are recycled every second.
