3. Re-assessment Opportunities At the discretion of the Exam Board students will be permitted the opportunity to resit up to a maximum of three courses from the taught courses at HWU. Resits are not permitted where the overall average grade achieved is >= 50%. The Examination Board has discretion to advise the required courses to be re-assessed in keeping with the Degree title.
Where courses are assessed entirely by examination or by a combination of examination and coursework the re-sit will be by examination. For courses where assessment is based solely on coursework, a new assignment will be given.

All courses are compulsory including the Thesis for the MSc. In the first study period at HWU students register for a total of four mandatory courses. Each course is worth 7.5 ECTS credits (15 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework credits). Students must pass all courses at 50% to enable mobility to Polimi. Similarly at Polimi students must pass all courses at 50% for mobility to Umea. The MSc Thesis conducted at Umea nad is worth 15 ECTS credits. Under normal procedures of the partnering university, the thesis is conducted in pairs and students are required to orally defend their theses as part of the assessment 6. Additional Information Students obtaining 60 ECTS credits with an overall average mark at first attempt of at least 40% (grade D) are eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma at HWU only Students obtaining 30 ECTS credits with an overall average mark at first attempt of at least 40% (grade D) are eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate at HWU only The accompanying Programme Description provides details of aims, outcomes, teaching & learning and assessment policies for the course.
