United Airlines to Help Aloha Airlines Customers

Q&A

United Airlines (UA) and Aloha Airlines (AQ) have a frequent flyer and code share relationship and UA is prepared to assist and accommodate customers who are affected by the termination of AQ. For customers who are flying on a UA-issued ticket, we will rebook them on an alternate flight where space is available, for no additional charge. For customers traveling on an AQ-issued ticket, we are offering a discounted one-way fare through the end of April that will make it easier for them to return home.

The following Q & A section provides additional information for customers scheduled to fly with Aloha:

1. What does a code share relationship between UA and AQ mean? It means that we were allowed to market flights as our own even though they are actually operated by Aloha Airlines. Conversely, it allowed Aloha to have an AQ flight number on flights which were actually operated by UA. Therefore, customers ticketed on either airline have the potential to be affected.

2. How will United rebook customers originally scheduled to fly on Aloha? For customers on UA-issued tickets, we will make our best effort to rebook customers on a UA flight between the U.S. Mainland and their Hawaiian destination. The same would also be true for flights departing Hawaii for the U.S. mainland. For inter-island travel, UA will do its best to find alternate arrangements on either Hawaiian Airlines or Go! Airlines.

However, all accommodations will be dependent on the availability of seats. If no acceptable arrangements can be made, UA will refund the ticket, according to the rules of the original fare have paid.

3. Will United pro-actively rebook customers whose itinerary includes an Aloha flight on a United-issued ticket? No. Travel agents need to contact United for customer rebooking. Once rebooked, the Travel agent re-issues the ticket.

4. My travel agency originally issued the ticket, can’t they make the change? No. Travel agents need to contact United for customer re-booking.

5. How do I know which airline has issued the ticket? All airline tickets have a ticket number. The first three digits of the ticket number will identify who has issued the ticket.  Tickets beginning with 016 are issued by United Airlines.  Tickets beginning with 327 are issued by Aloha Airlines.

Page 1 of 2 6. How do I know if the flight is cancelled or will operate?  If the flight number is between UA 0001 and UA 1699, it is operated by UA and is not impacted.  If the flight number is between UA 3940- 4299, it is operated by AQ and is cancelled.  If the flight number is shown as AQ 1100- AQ 1299 these flights are operated by UA and will continue to operate.  If the flight carries either a UA or an AQ flight number, and is operated by Island Air, the flight will operate as normal since they are not affected by Aloha’s discontinuation of service.

7. How will a UA ticketed customer booked on an AQ operated flight be rebooked? United customers booked on Aloha Airlines operated flights will be rebooked for their same day of travel at no additional charge (subject to availability.) In some cases we may re-book customers on another carrier, at no charge, if we cannot find space available on one of our flights.

8. How will AQ ticketed customers booked on UA operated flights be rebooked? Customers are not affected as they are already confirmed on a United operated flight. We will continue to accept all Aloha Airline issued tickets for UA operated flights. Customers should check in as normal.

9. How will UA customers booked on AQ flights with Mileage Plus miles be rebooked? UA ticketed customers on Aloha Airlines using Mileage Plus miles will be rebooked on another flight either with United, Hawaiian or Go! (subject to availability.) If acceptable arrangements can not be made, customers will be re-credited the miles to their account without a fee prior to the beginning of travel.
