Project Read Sept. 17-21

Monday---Unit 13A Lesson 1 Skill: beginning consonant blends sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, pl Teacher will remind students that if a word begins with 2 consonants this spelling is a consonant blend. We have learned consonant blends sl, bl, fl, and cl. Teacher will place the l-blend bowl worksheet 13-3 under the document camera and students will practice skywriting these blends 3 times each. Students will also review l-blends studied thus far (sl, bl, fl, cl) by rereading worksheets 13-13, 13-9, 13-15, 13-17, and 13-19 under the document camera. Teacher will replace the l-blend bowl worksheet back under the document camera. Teacher will tell students that they are going to practice the last 2 l- blends with today’s lesson. Teacher will place the l-blends gl and pl into the bowl. Students will practice skywriting each of these blends 3 times each. Teacher will place worksheet 13-21 (gl words) under the document camera. Students will practice reading the words (and discussing meanings as needed) 3 times: finger blending, teacher tapping spellings students providing sounds and then sweep the words, and also practice reading the words fluently. Class will do the same activities with pl words on worksheet 13-23. Teacher will place worksheet 13-11 (sentences containing l-blend words) under the document camera. Students will practice reading sentences and answering comprehension questions that the teacher may ask about each sentence. Teacher will place the story, “A Glass Dish” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Tuesday---Unit 13A Lesson 1: l-blends and Lesson 2: red word they Teacher will remind students that if a word begins with 2 consonants this spelling is a consonant blend. We have learned consonant blends sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, and pl. Teacher will place the l-blend bowl worksheet 13-3 under the document camera and students will practice skywriting these blends. Teacher will take up the quizzes and students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz. Lesson 2: red word they Teacher will tell students that in this lesson they will learn a new word and review the red words they have already studied. Teacher will point out the red word they in the blue pocket chart and tell students that they is a word that stands for the name of people, places, or things. Example: Tim and Ted have sleds. They have sleds. They stands for Tim and Ted. Example: The dolls are in the box. They are in the box. They stands for the dolls. Students will read the red word they, tap and sweep the word on their arms 5 times. Teacher will flash all red words that students have studied thus far. Students will spell and say each word. Teacher will place worksheet 13-29 under the document camera and will dictate the following sentences. Students will spell the missing red words for teacher, who will fill in the missing underlined words on the worksheet. 1. I have a red sled. 2. Should Dad put the bits of ham in the dog’s dish? 3. Beth was at the rink with Pam. 4. Mom said to put on the hat. 5. They are sad. Teacher will place the story, “Lots of Things” under the document camera. This story contains many l-blend words. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Lots of Things” under the document camera. Students will read and discuss the story. Then students will complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up the quizzes. Students will discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz. Teacher will pass out Study Guide for Unit 13A. Teacher will follow directions to dictate sounds, words and sentences for students. Students will fill out study guide. Teacher will make sure that the students have correct answers written on study guide. Students will take the study guides home to study for an assessment tomorrow.

Thursday---Unit 13A Assessment Teacher will place worksheet 13-31 under the document camera. Students will review l-blends words and sentences containing l-blend words. Then teacher will pass out Unit 13A assessment and will follow teacher directions to dictate sounds, words, and sentences for students to write.

Friday---Unit 13A Oral Reading Assessment and Spelling Assessment Teacher will follow order on reading group list to assign parts of the following l-blends and red word they worksheets to read for an oral reading grade. Worksheets: sl 13-13, 13-9, bl 13-15, fl 13-17, cl 13-19, gl 13-21, pl 13- 23, 13-11, red words 13-29, Unit 13A Jeweled Treasure Review 13-31. Students will complete spelling assessment over the following words: flag, flesh, flip, flock, class, click, cloth, glad, plan, they.
