DESCRIPTION

This course will introduce the students to basic skills common to all human services program delivery. It will include dealing with the public, assessment of needs, report writing, networking, basic helping skills and other core concepts.

No books are placed on reserve for this course. Books will be recommended by instructor.

AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS

Materials will be used as appropriate to enhance classroom learning. Students will have the option of having themselves videotaped in the practice of helping skills.

OBJECTIVES OF COURSE

The student will undertake self-evaluation in order to better understand him/herself and others. HUS 102 - Outline, Page 2

The student will learn to apply theories of helping to meet the needs of clients.

The student will demonstrate competence in writing reports, evaluating client needs and practicing confidentiality.

Basic core concepts of helping will be practiced so that students will become skilled direct care givers.

METHOD OF EVALUATION

Class participation is essential to success in this class. Students will be penalized for not attending class as the material is often presented experientially. Reasons for absences should be discussed with the instructor.
