It will include dealing with the public, assessment of needs, report writing, networking, basic helping skills and other core concepts.</p><p>TEXT</p><p>Schram and Mandell. Human Services: Policy and Practice, Allyn & Bacon, Maine, 1997. Third Edition.</p><p>RESERVE BOOKS</p><p>No books are placed on reserve for this course. Books will be recommended by instructor.</p><p>AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS</p><p>Materials will be used as appropriate to enhance classroom learning. Students will have the option of having themselves videotaped in the practice of helping skills.</p><p>OBJECTIVES OF COURSE</p><p>The student will undertake self-evaluation in order to better understand him/herself and others. HUS 102 - Outline, Page 2</p><p>The student will learn to apply theories of helping to meet the needs of clients.</p><p>The student will demonstrate competence in writing reports, evaluating client needs and practicing confidentiality. </p><p>Basic core concepts of helping will be practiced so that students will become skilled direct care givers.</p><p>METHOD OF EVALUATION</p><p>Class participation is essential to success in this class. Students will be penalized for not attending class as the material is often presented experientially.
