NOTICE OF RACE SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP ASYMMETRIC REGATTA 2015 (THE GOLD CUP) (Incorporating the ASA Individual Regatta, the Grant and Forshaw Trophy and RS 200 Trophy) 19th and 20th of September 2015

RNSA ASA RAFSA NOTICE OF RACE THE SERVICES OPEN ASYMMETRIC REGATTA 2015 (THE GOLD CUP)

1. Organising Authority. The Army Sailing Association (ASA), in association with the Royal Navy Sailing Association (RNSA) and Royal Air Force Sailing Association (RAFSA).

2. Rules. Racing will be governed by the RYA Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016, Individual Class Association Rules and the Sailing Instructions (SIs).

3. Eligibility. The event is open to fully paid up members of the ASA, RNSA, RAFSA their dependents, members of affiliated service sailing associations and Civil Servants1. Any Asymmetric Monohull Dinghy is eligible to be raced in the Open Handicap event.

4. Prizes. Prizes will be awarded for the following:

a. Open Handicap Asymmetric Championships (any Asymmetric Monohull Dinghy) The GOLD CUP

b. ASA Individual Championships, (The Grant Trophy) –2000.

c. RNSA Individual Championship, (The RN Cup) – 2000

d. RAFSA Individual Championship, (The RAF Cup) –2000

e. Forshaw Trophy – RS 400.

f. RS 200 Trophy.

g. Novice Trophy.

4. Location. The Championships will take place at the Army Inshore Sail Training Centre, Baker Barracks, Thorney Island, PO10 8DH

5. Fees. The entry fee for the event is £20 per boat for those who are paid up members of the RNSA/ASA/RAFSA and £30 for those who are not.

6. Equipment. There are a number of Asymmetric dinghies available to ASA members from AISTC (S) and bids for them should be sent to the Manager at AISTC (S) at [email protected]. Note that dinghies will be allocated on a first come, first

1 See Para 5. served basis. After 1 Sep 15, equipment may be offered up to other service personnel. The types of dingy available are:

a. 2000

b. RS Vision

c. Topper Vibe

Other Service equipment will be provided under individual service arrangements. Competitors may bring their personal equipment; All such equipment, be it personal or service owned is to comply with Individual Class Association Rules and measurements.

7. Registration. SIs will be available no more than 1 month before the event. Competitors are requested to forward the attached entry form along with entry fees by cheque, made payable to the ASA to the ASA Area Coach at the address given below by 19 Sep 14. Registration will also be available on site from 0900 hrs on Saturday 19 Sep 2015 at AISTC (S)2

8. Races. There will be 3 races per day. There will be a discard after 4 races. The first race will not start before 1200 hrs on Saturday 19 Sep. The target duration for each race is 1 hour3. 3 Races are required to be sailed to constitute a series.

9. Briefing. There will be a competitors briefing at 1100 hrs on Saturday 19 Sep and at 1000 hrs on Sunday 20 Sep if required.

10. Weight Equalisation. Competitors are reminded of the rules regarding “Weight and Righting Moment Equalisation” within their class rules and may be subject to weighing at any time during the Championships.

11. Safety.

a. A boat in entirely responsible for her own safety, whether ashore or afloat and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else reduces this responsibility.

b. It is for a boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and compete in them.

c. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or 2 Note requirement to book equipment as soon as possible and ASA prior to 1 Sep 15 or risk not being allocated. 3 Based on the slowest boat in the fleet. personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and beach masters.

d. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.

e. Personal buoyancy shall be worn by all competitors whilst afloat. Those using trapeze boats are strongly recommended to use quick release harnesses.

f. Those entering personal equipment are required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2M.

12. Social. Every effort will be made to hold a social evening, with entertainment and buffet on Saturday 19 Sep. The bar at TISC will be open Sat 19 Sep 15.

13. Messing and Accommodation. All personnel should be aware that catering facilities at AISTC (S) are available through the Regimental Restaurant on a Pay as you Dine Basis. Bagged lunch meals need to be pre-booked or may be available via TISC. Accommodation in the new facilities is available by prior arrangements with the AISTC (S) Facilities Manager on 94295 8315/01243 388315 or [email protected] . Personnel wishing to camp are to seek permission through the Manager at AISTC (S). Personnel are to note that should camping be available the camping area is within 60 – 100m of married quarter areas. Good behaviour is expected and good maintenance of the camping area.
