I was born and raised in Bakersfield, educated in public schools, am a life-long community volunteer and therefore have had exposure to a variety of people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. I am a former law enforcement officer, have owned a small business. I teach at the community college level. I was a soccer referee, softball umpire. I scuba dive and study karate (Black Belt - Tae Kwon Do).

Adjunct Professor, Bakersfield College 1801 Panorama Drive Bakersfield, CA 93305 January, 1997 - Present Spring, 1997, I served as the Department Chair of Criminal Justice (Sabbatical Replacement). Duties included teaching courses in Criminal Justice, hiring adjunct faculty, maintaining department budget, scheduling classes and assigning classrooms. I also served as an Instructional Supervisor (weekends). Full-time non- tenure track January – May, 2000. I designed and implemented New Course Curriculums: Introduction to Public Administration (articulated with Calif. State University,) and Legal Aspects of Corrections, Special Topics in C.J. – Intro to Terrorism. Taught in the Corrections Core Classes (Academies), as well as In-Service classes, including Arrest and Control (P.C. 832) course. I am a Certified Instructor: Arrest & Control Tactics, Side-Handle Baton and Straight Baton, Metal-Tec 1400, First Aid – CPR/AED, Weapons of Mass Destruction – Awareness Level. Corrections Program Training Coordinator, WESTEC North Kern Training Center, 5801 E. Lerdo Hwy. Shafter, CA 93263 January, 2007 – January, 2011. Wrote curriculum for the Bakersfield College Catalog for the entire corrections training program at WESTEC (58 courses). I maintained certification of all courses with Calif. Dept. Corrections & Rehabilitation - Corrections Standards Authority for Local Corrections (61 classes). I was the liaison for Bakersfield College administration for course offerings and program development. I was responsible for customer relations with client company/agencies for training needs. I scheduled In- Service Training classes and assigned instructors. I Maintained Department Program Budget & Resource Acquisitions.

Interim Campus Director, Bakersfield College - Delano Center 1450 Timmons Ave Delano, CA 93215 June, 2005 – September, 2006 I served as the Campus Director while the permanent Director was on Active Military Duty. I had responsibility for managing two centers including staffing (11 full-time and 34 adjunct professors), budgeting ($800k), campus maintenance and operations. I represented the Delano campus on the Educational Administrators Council and College Council. The Delano Center averaged 1,200 enrolled students (200 of which are full-time) generating $1.6m in FTES. During my tenure, the Delano Campus Center saw an increase of 14% enrollment. (This was at time when other community colleges in California experienced a stagnant or decline in their enrollments.)
