Media Specialists Meeting

Media Specialists’ Meeting October 27, 2010 Liberty Elementary

All were Present at the meeting –Roxanne Lee, Latricia Cobb, Nikki Lukkarinen, Cristina Dover, Elaine Walker, Mary Lewis, Jeff Staggs, Kay Williams, Melissa Sands, Miriam Hudson, Kristi Craven, Tara Griffin, Sandy Jennings, Tory Baker and Diana Anderson

I. AR Parties and Teen Tech Week-Great Job! – Jaime asked everyone to click on the link to see all of the great pics taken at the AR Parties and of Teen Tech Week. Some shared what they are doing with AR and Teen Week in their media centers. Tory shared AR Rocks with her Reading Rocks items and shirts. Elaine shared about her AR Hats. Jaime showed the login for the new feature on Home Connect Report to see who is using it. You can see how many are using email and how many are connecting.

II. Monthly Statistics – a. Jaime stated there was lots of high circulation in the county. Taylors Creek and Waldo Pafford were particularly high. b. Jaime showed a 30 day view and said that statistically everyone is doing a better job with AR this year than last year. c. Jaime encouraged netTrekker usage. She said to focus on getting everyone to use it. d. Jaime stated that BrainPop was purchased by the District and all the elementary should have a login. Please share this information. e. Jaime encouraged using the software to keep up with the student visits to the media centers.

III. Destiny Checkup – Jaime stated the last time the system slowed Annette was running backups. She will reschedule the backups so it won’t slow things down so much.

IV. LCD Concerns – Jaime stated if you have mounted LCD projectors please email any troubleshooting issues and LCD or SmartBoard linked issues to Patti. DO NOT place work orders. The media specialists should collect any and all concerns and email them to her. Please do not ask your teachers to do this. b. If your principal doesn’t object, you may change the air filters yourself. c. Jaime stated that she and Jud would be training maintenance and given a check list to go by for changing the bulbs. Jaime said if you have LCD’s that need the bulb counters reset, you may do this yourself.

V. LCD Bulbs Warning Messages and Bulb Reordering– Jaime said you should go ahead and order one bulb for each machine to have on hand before you get warning messages. Jaime made an LCD bulb reference sheet and handed them out.

VI. Principal’s Notes and AR– Jaime stated you can read the notes on AR from the Principal’s meetings by following the link under Helpful Resources on the Media Page. VII. Children’s Book Week – Send Jaime your school’s plan by November 5th. Jaime stated she is trying to get the Coastal Courier to write an article.

VIII. Standard Search Update – Jaime shared there is a free trial standard search through the Technology Resource Center in Destiny .

IX. Student Time Clock and Importing Student Data – Jaime stated she now has the customized version and will visit each elementary school and install it.

X. HRRB – Jaime said to look for an email from her on registering and to please register and let her know when you do. a. The Medallions will need to be ordered but she will need all of the registered teams.

XI. E-Books – Jaime stated that John Bach has a lot of good ideas. You can use the E- Books by using a Kendall. Jaime stated you can go to Follett and use it on the Netbooks. EBooks checks itself in after 2 days. You can read through and see what other people are doing with this. The cost is about the same as a regular book. You can also get Book Flicks through Scholastic and the students can read online at home.

XII. View the ISMF winners online– Jaime stated she can come and talk to your school about the International Media Festival. She is waiting for the name list from everyone. Jaime stated that 5 or less on a project will get a medallion. Send Jaime your list if they have transferred from another school so they will get invited.

XIII. Next Meeting – December 8 @ 11:00am tentatively at JBE or at BI. This will be a covered dish. Jaime will send an email reminder with a list.

XIV. Trick or Treat! Galileo for Elementary after the meeting.
