Civil War - Challenge Brief

After recently being annexed into the United States, Texas is on the verge of joining the Civil War. The country we have joined is falling apart at the seams. This war has put families against each other, brother vs. brother, and is in danger of destroying their great nation.

After researching the causes of the war and the impacts they had on our country, how will you know what side you want to fight for? Why do you feel convicted to fight for that side? 1. Create a scrapbook that shows the perspective of those involved in the Civil War, such as Northerners, Southerners, slaves, children. You must analyze the political, economic and social effects of the Civil War by sequencing, categorizing, identifying cause and effect relationships, comparing, contrasting, finding the main idea, summarizing, making generalizations and predictions, and drawing inferences and conclusions. 2. In your scrapbook, you need to identify the major era of Texas History and describe their defining characteristics. You must also explain the significance of the following dates: 1861 and the Civil War beginning. 3. While creating your scrapbook, identify the significant individuals(and events concerning Texas and the Civil War such John Bell Hood, John Reagan, Francis Lubbock, Thomas Green, John Magruder and the Battle of Galveston, the Battle of Sabine Pass, and the Battle of Palmito Ranch. 4. In your scrapbook, you must explain reasons for the involvement of Texas in the Civil War such as states rights, slavery, sectionalisms, and tariffs` and write a short reflection/journal entry on how that affected you. 5. Create a manifesto that clearly states your point of view on the Civil War. Which side you are fighting for and why you feel convicted to fight for that side. 6. While writing your manifesto, identify points of view from the historical context surrounding an event and the frame of reference that influenced you in picking the side that you are fighting for.
