Heart n Soul is an award winning creative arts company. We are looking to recruit a temporary Communications and Fundraising Officer to help us deliver vibrant and effective communications and develop our fundraising through individual giving.

The role will cover for our Communications Officer while they move across to fill a project-specific role to support Heart n Soul’s 30th anniversary oral history project. The role is for 9 months starting in October 2016.

2 1. About Heart n Soul

Heart n Soul is an award-winning creative arts company based in South East London.

We aim to transform the lives of people with learning disabilities by enabling them to discover their creativity and grow self-confidence, ambition and independence.

We achieve our objectives through interconnected programmes of art, taking part, training and sharing activity for people with learning disabilities aged 10-65+.

Activities include regular high quality creative sessions for young people (Do Your Own Thing) and adults (Allsorts), bespoke skills development and mentoring support, performance and touring opportunities, and popular inclusive club nights held in mainstream venues. People with learning disabilities inform and shape our work as artists, participants, volunteers, staff and trustees.

We reach over 30,000 people per year in live events, creative sessions and online.

Heart n Soul is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. Our annual turnover is £800,000.

We receive about a third of our income from Arts Council England. We raise the remainder from ticket sales and other earned income, donations from individuals and grants from charitable trusts and foundations.

3 4 2. Job Description

The Communications and Fundraising Officer will assist in delivering effective and vibrant communications for Heart n Soul – as part of Heart n Soul’s communications team; and support effective fundraising through individual giving.

They will report to Heart n Soul’s Communications Manager.

The role is 35 hours a week, over 5 days.

Role to include:

Manage communications projects or sub-projects delegated by the Communications Manager

Marketing (3 days a week) Contribute to communicating Heart n Soul activities and events, attracting, engaging and retaining audiences:

Materials  Write copy for publicity materials  Co-ordinate the design and print/publishing of publicity for Heart n Soul projects and events including websites, print materials, promotional eflyers/enewsletters, merchandise and signage and preparing presentations.  Arrange the distribution of publicity materials through all channels as set out in communications plans  Liaise with filmmakers/photographers in the creation of films or photos of Heart n Soul projects and events

Social media/website/s  Actively seek channels of communication online with new and existing audiences  Plan and support the Communications Assistant to develop

5 digital marketing campaigns for specific projects when required and to support our plans to increase reach and engagement of our social media sites and website/s  Ensure all Heart n Soul websites (both organisation and artists) and listings on external sites are up to date

Records/storage  Maintain an archive of marketing materials and photographs  Maintain stocks of photographs as per the media storage policy  Ensure that database inputs, reports and mailing lists concerning communications are up-to-date, accurate and used effectively

Fundraising (2 days/week)

Work with the Chief Executive, General Manager and Communications Manager to develop and implement individual giving in support of Heart n Soul’s 30th anniversary, and develop on-going systems to support individual giving

 Building on what Heart n Soul learnt through its recent crowd- funding and Vitality 10km run campaigns, coordinate a campaign before end March 2017 (target £10,000)  Develop and manage the plan for the campaign  Coordinate social networking, campaign materials and other communications  Develop and manage the budget for the campaign  Keep a learning file for the campaign, pulling together and sharing learning with the team  Coordinate contributions to the campaign by the whole Heart n Soul team, making it a shared endeavour  Support tailored approaches being made to potential high-value donors  Maintain fundraising records on the database, manage Gift Aid and Just Giving, working with the Administrative Assistant

Team Duties:

6  Line-manage the Communications Assistant  Take part in team meetings  Be an active team-player in the communications and wider teams  Play a role in the smooth running of the office and organisation as required  Help to maintain Heart n Soul’s database and Communications mailing lists  Operate within Heart n Soul policies at all times  Work within agreed budgets  Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by your line manager or the Chief Executive

3. Person Specification:

Essential:  At least 2 years experience of communications in a relevant environment  At least 2 years experience of successful individual giving and fundraising campaigns  Excellent written and verbal communications skills  Excellent, confident interpersonal skills  A strong team-player  Flexibility  Excellent IT and web skills including a good working knowledge of photoshop and imovie  Highly motivated and able to work under own initiative  Conscientious and accurate, with good attention to detail  Good time management and ability to work multiple priorities to deadlines and well under pressure  A knowledge of and commitment to the principles of Equal Opportunities

7 Desirable:  Experience of database systems  Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
