RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION SUNY CORTLAND

Thank you for your interest in R.H.A, the residential student government of SUNY Cortland. The executive board members are elected by the residential student body and represent the voice of the residential campus.

In this nomination packet, you will find a nomination submission form, information on the four available positions, and an outline of the election process. The packet will also provide you with tips and suggestions to help you run a fair and ethical campaign.

Winners have the opportunity to go to the R.H.A national conference being held in Wisconsin from May 30, 2007 - June 4, 2007. R.H.A. will pay for conference and housing costs while winners will be responsible for some travel costs—contact Brandon Barile or Cheri Skipworth for more information.

Minimum Requirements to run for RHA Governing Board: . Minimum GPA of 2.2 (must be maintained throughout term) . Good Judicial Standing . Adherence to position description and responsibilities

ELECTION GUIDELINES:  Each candidate should receive a position description list, a copy of the election guidelines, and an application form, which shall be signed by the candidate and returned to RHA or Residential Services by March 21, 2007.  Once the nomination form is on file, campaigning by and for the candidate may begin. This may take the form of personal campaigning such as candidate introducing self to people, as well as campaign posters. Candidates are also permitted to post signs in compliance with the posting policy. Any posting in Residence halls must be approved by the Residence Hall Director.  Any campaigning must be done in a friendly spirit of competition. Remarks, written or otherwise, that are deemed to be offensive in nature, could result in a candidate being removed from the ballot.  During the posted election times, candidates are not permitted to campaign in the election area, or to be present for any reason, in that area. Exceptions include: voting (each candidate may vote) and entering or exiting the building.  All ballots will be tallied as close to the end of the voting time as possible. Every effort will be made to notify all candidates before the results are made public.

ELECTION PROCEDURE 1) Nomination Forms are due to Residential Services by March 21, 2007 2) Elections will be held in Corey Union March 26th -28th (Come down and vote!) 3) Election results will be sent via e-mail to entire campus April 1st. 4) Winners will be notified via phone .

Director, Residence Hall Association - Coordinates and supervises entire organization - Creates, organizes, and coordinates aspects of campus-wide events (1 per semester) - Holds 5 office hours in RHA office (currently located in Casey Tower) - Represents RHA at any function - Creates weekly agenda - Runs weekly meetings - Attends bi-weekly meeting with director of residential services - Chairs one committee - Reports to Co-Advisor for Leadership - Receives $500 stipend per semester

Associate Director, Finances - Supervises all aspects of general budget - Coordinates fundraisers (1 per semester) - Manages budget allocation process - Holds 3-5 office hours in RHA Office (currently located in Casey Tower) - Chairs fundraising committee - Reports to Co-Advisor for Finances - Receives $450 stipend per semester

Associate Director, Programming - Organizes database for all RHA Sponsored programming - Holds 3-5 office hours in RHA Office (currently located in Casey Tower) - Coordinates social programs (1 per semester) - Reports to Co-advisor for Leadership Development - Receives $450 stipend per semester

Associate Director, Publicity - Manages RHA website through MySpace - Assists Residential Student Staff with publicity - Attends Student Government Association meetings - Holds 3-5 office hours in RHA Office (currently located in Casey Tower) - Reports to Co-Advisor for Finance and Operations - Receives $450 stipend per semester R.H.A GOVERNING BOARD APPLICATION FORM
