Application for Associate Degree Nursing Program (RN) Admission Requirements: The following requirements must be met before you can be considered for admission into the nursing program. We recommend that interested students contact the nursing office for academic advising.

1. Admission to the College You must be admitted to PHCC before you can be considered for admission to the nursing program. ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION TO THE NURSING PROGRAM. 2. Graduation from high school or GED 3. Transcripts  High School Transcript o The Board of Nursing requires an official sealed copy of your high school transcript or GED be on file in the nursing office. It is the student’s responsibility to contact their high school to obtain this transcript & attach the sealed copy to the admission application. Please note: PHCC no longer requires a high school transcript for admission to the college and does not keep old copies.  College Transcripts o We do not need transcripts from PHCC o If you have attended another Virginia Community College you will need to go to the Admissions Office to arrange to have these transcripts evaluated by the Office of Admissions & Records. This needs to be done prior to submitting your nursing application. (if not previously completed) o If you have attended any other college or university outside of the Virginia Community College System you will need to: . Have official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office to be evaluated. (if not previously completed) . Attach a copy of these transcripts to your nursing application in order to verify pre-requisites. Inability to verify pre-requisites will void the nursing application. 4. High School Courses In order to be admitted to the nursing program, you must have at least a “C” average in high school. Students who graduated from high school with less than an overall “C” average must establish a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average in graded (A, B, C, D, F) college level courses. HIGH SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS PHCC EQUIVALENT_ 1 college prep level Biology NAS150/BIO101/BIO102 1 college prep level Chemistry CHM 110 Algebra I Modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 5. Placement Test Scores You must complete the College Placement test, if you do not have previous college level Math & English. If scores indicate that developmental courses are needed, the applicant will be required to successfully complete developmental courses before being considered for admission to the nursing program. 6. Nursing Application Form You will need to complete the attached nursing application form and return it to the Nursing Office (Philpott Hall Room 109) during the specified application period. 7. Pre-RN Admission Examination ISBN# for HESI Test Review book: 978-1455703333 This test is the final step in the admission process. Once you have met the above criteria and your application file has been approved, you will be scheduled for this test. Applicants will be tested in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, Vocabulary and Chemistry.

After your application, transcripts, and placement test scores have been reviewed, you will be contacted by the nursing office by mail to the address you list below. If you meet the admission requirements, you will be scheduled to take the pre-RN Admission Examination. Any student with an Honor Code violation will not be considered for admission to the Nursing Program.
