COURSE DESCRIPTION: This one credit course focuses on nursing management and critical thinking regarding medication therapy. Introductory topics are pharmacokinetics, drug interactions and nursing implications. These topics are then applied to the following drug groups: analgesics, opiates, NSAIDS, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, bipolar medications, sedatives, hypnotics, and infectious disease agents. Drug lists for each major category of drugs will be used to direct learning for drug action, safe dosage, side effects, drug interactions, adverse reactions and nursing implications. Prerequisite: admission in the Nursing program and enrollment in NUR101. METHOD OF EVALUATION: Weekly attendance and participation in class including weekly quizzes and case studies. There is one final exam.

Grading: 92.0 to 100% = A (184-200 points)

84.0 to 91.9%= B (168-183 points)

76.0 to 83.9% = C (152-167 points)

75.9 % and below is not passing

Since this is a very short and compact class, no late work will be accepted unless you receive prior instructor approval. Please feel free to talk to me about any project ideas or problems regarding the class. The syllabus may change slightly during the term to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.
