Global Warming Assignment

Most scientists don’t argue that our climate is changing. However, scientist do argue as to how much the climate is changing and the cause of the change. You need to read the article “Global Warming: The Hottest Debate of the Decade.” http://dujs.dartmouth.edu/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/global-warming.pdf . After reading the article you need to form your opinion about global warming; does global warming exist and who or what is causing global warming. You need to reference at least two more articles to support your opinion. These can be newspaper, magazine or journal articles only. NCWISE OWL is a great resource. Either include copies of these resources or links in your publication. You will need to create a publication of your choice (brochure, poster, flyer, newspaper article, journal article, video interview etc) for the public that argues your opinion. (You may NOT use a PowerPoint, Prezi or paper.) Below are some topics to think about. You don’t need to include information on all the topics but the issues may strengthen your opinion. If you argue that global warming doesn’t exist you need to include explanation as to why changes are occurring if they are not related to global warming. You will get points based on how strong of an argument you present.

Possible topics (but not limited to these): - How will global warming affect hurricanes? - What methods have been proposed to reverse global warming? - How will the climate of Knightdale, NC change? - What unexpected benefits might global warming have? - Why is Arctic ice melting faster than Antarctic ice? - How do climate models predict the future? Or, how accurate are they really? What’s missing from them? - How will global warming affect American industry? - What will happen to the Gulf Stream (or other currents) with global warming? - What feedbacks will occur with global warming? (Ice-albedo, water vapor, cloud, etc.) - Which forcing is more dominant – aerosols or greenhouse gases? - What has happened to the ozone hole, and what is expected to happen? - How will global warming affect species extinction/evolution? - How will global warming affect food production? - How do scientists recreate the temperature record from long ago? - You could even discuss the politics of global warming. - How does the topic affect the economy? Does the media coverage affect the economy? - Are changes in the sun’s magnetic field/solar radiation/sunspot cycles/etc. causing global warming?
